4:30 am. Dew still on the stalks. John Altobelli is already out in his fields in Kinderhook, NY, picking the corn that’ll be on your table by dinner.

He’s been doing this for almost 20 years — same land his family has worked since 1956, same feeling every single summer.

“I started planting vegetables and I was pretty good at it,” he says. “Sweet corn was my favorite. We pick it first thing in the morning, pack it out, put it on our trucks, and by the afternoon, it’s at FreshDirect.”

Most farms ship through a distributor. John still drives his own truck down to us.

Corn season doesn’t last. So make sure to stock up on yours.
