TWO WEEKS THYME! The Towhee Tea Cafe will be returning to the hill with our organic farm to table seasonal menu. Our fresh baked bread was such a hit last year that we will be baking our bread and pastries right at the stand every morning!

It is with a heavy heart that I have to make this post. Our beloved kitty Sh’ana passed away the morning of Nov. 4th after being hit by a car. We believe that she did not suffer and that it was quick, but it breaks our hearts that she’s gone, she was only 4 years old. I don’t usually post about the loss of loved ones and pets, but we know our kitty was loved by a lot of people that visited our tea hut at all the events we did. She was with us for most of them and became a mascot for our company. She got so much attention from people visiting the stand and she welcomed the affection from loving strangers because she wasn’t afraid of interacting with new people. Even people who didn’t like cats, said that they liked her. When we have friends over our place to hang out, she was always there chilling with us, and being the “keeper of the vibes” at home and at the tea stand. She was more than just a pet, she was our family. We’ve taken her on many adventures and traveled from Florida to NH with her, lived off grid with her, and of course she accompanied us to numerous events. She was an indoor/outdoor cat, she loved to hunt and go on adventures around where we live. We miss her dearly, she was so vocal and always welcomed pets and cuddles, and was there for us through everything in the last four years supporting us and loving us both unconditionally, as we loved her, as we will always love her. She will be missed. Rest In Peace Sh’ana Ilkay ❤️

These are the last pictures I took of her over the summer at events and recently at home. The last picture is the most recent, when she fell asleep on top of her catnip pouch in front of the heater.

Yesterday for Halloween or “Samhain” we harvested the last of our herbs that we weren’t going to put in our kitchen, dug up our Black Turmeric for use and to split it up and store it for winter, and processed some of our dried herbs harvested last week. It was chilly yesterday and the mountaintops had a dusting of snow, but today Nov 1st, we have a hardly layer of frost on the ground and on our last outdoor h**p plant which we cut down this morning, and check out those cool frost crystals on the old Goldenrod!

Thrushes blend in to their forest habitat so well! I snapped this picture right before they flew away but almost deleted it after because I thought I missed them. It wasn’t until I looked a little harder that I realized I had gotten them in the picture. Can you find the thrushes in this pic?

Thrush species are very similar in coloration so it’s been hard for me to properly ID them especially when I usually don’t notice them until they are flying away from me because of their amazing camouflage

Brown Creeper appreciation post!
These fantastically camouflaged birds walk up trees in search for food under the bark. They are small birds that I’ve been seeing mixed in with flocks of Chickadees, Kinglets, Nuthatches, and other songbirds who are preparing for the winter months to come. I remember seeing this species a couple times as a kid in RI, and I got a really good glimpse of one last winter while I was working in the sugar woods of northern VT, but the last couple months I’ve gotten to see them more often and observe them better than before. They are also really hard to get pictures of (with my camera at least) because they are constantly on the move running up tree trunks. These pictures were taken over the last few days, and yesterday was my closest encounter yet. While scanning the treetops for the Golden Crowned Kinglet I was hearing, something caught my eye on the tree trunk only a few feet away and it was this little dude making its way up the tree right in front of me! It’s camo is so good I almost didn’t notice it! Can you spot the Brown Creeper in the last picture? I even had a hard time finding it, and I was the one that took the picture! Lol

I recently found out that this cool looking plant has a very spooky common name. It’s called “Dolls Eyes”!
Dolls Eyes is toxic to humans, but birds get to enjoy this spooky snack.
What spooky plant name is your favorite?

It felt so great to be back at Harry’s Hill for G***a Grail 2023! This year we had some new teas at the stand like Fire Chai, Pumpkin Spice Chai, Yerba Mate, as well as our newest addition, fresh pressed apple cider. We also have been experimenting with health conscious farm-to-table food like veggie curry with rice, lentil soup with veggies and oyster mushrooms, naan and hummus, and the most popular, egg & cheese (with or without bacon) on a homemade bun.
Most of our ingredients were sourced locally from farms in VT, and the oyster mushrooms came from our friend Lilac who’s mushroom stand was right next to ours at GG!
We want to give a huge shout out and thank you to our helpers Kyla and Sareena for all their hard work and our photographer Zach Ober for getting these wicked pix!

G***a Grail is going to be a blast! Hope to see you there!
