Did you know that there are a few types of maple trees that can be tapped. Some of the trees that we tap are:
🍁 Sugar Maple
🍁 Black Maple

Other Maple trees include:
🍁 Silver Maple
🍁 Red Maple
🍁 The Box Elder tree is also in the Maple Family.

Today with this beautiful weather we tapped 50 trees. Did you know that a tree can be tapped every year, just not in the same hole. Sap runs best when daytime temps are above freezing and nights drop below freezing.

This is our tapping process:
🍁 We drill a small hole into a sugar maple tree.
🍁 Gently insert the tap.
🍁 Hang the bags to collect the sap.
🍁 Check and collect sap as needed.

Now that the sap is flowing we just have to wait for enough sap to boil.

Welcome! My name is Sawyer Gumm, and I’m the operator of Timberline Maple Syrup here in Sheboygan Falls, WI. Maple syrup making is a hobby that was passed down to me by my grandpa, Knuth, and I’ve been learning the craft for the past 17 years. This season, we’re excited to tap around 50 trees.
