When the young students from the University of the Incarnate Word reached out to work on a marketing project for us, my heart felt so full. They spent time learning about Hess Street Foods, and they made this beautiful video that truly shows who we are.
They looked right into our history, back to 1955 when my grandfather came to San Antonio and leased that small house on Hess Street. They understood that opening a jar of our paste is like opening a door into Abuela Licha’s kitchen. It is a place of familiarity.
For me, preserving this ancient craft is about culture, memories, and sharing food that makes you feel connected.
To see these students connect so deeply with my abuela's legacy means everything to me. We are building bridges and becoming one familia.
Thank you, Andrea Teddei, Hannah Ramirez, Amaris Garza, Felipe Soto, Jade Hernandez, and Charlotte Ahaus, for your amazing work!
Muchas gracias to the brilliant UIW students for honoring our roots so beautifully!
