Carandale Fruit Farm

Carandale Fruit Farm We want to provide you with an experience that is enjoyable and authentic. We do not offer entertainment farming.

What we do offer is an opportunity to enjoy the beauty, harmony and relaxed atmosphere of our natural setting. We are located on the beautiful and picturesque terminal glacial moraine where the ice sheet stopped its advance and the boulders were deposited. We are easy to find at the south end of Fish Hatchery Road, but far enough away from any main thoroughfare so that the sights and sounds of wil

dlife among rolling hills, prairies and woodlands replace the sights and sounds of suburbia. It is not unusual to see deer, wild turkey, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, fox, raccoon and other wildlife while visiting our farm. We strive to provide our customers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where they can enjoy a personal experience in a natural setting. We want to make your trip to our farm a memorable experience with family, friends and neighbors. We would also like to make your trip to our farm (or your visit to our farmers’ market booth) educational by answering your questions and explaining how we work with nature to provide you with safe, nutritional fruits grown in an environmentally conscientious manner. We are committed to an integrated cropping system that incorporates all available management tools to maximize production and food safety, while minimizing environmental impact. We have been able to greatly reduce and even eliminate pesticide use on most crops. For example, we have established a 20 acre prairie to attract even more songbirds and small animals. Farm-wide, we have approximately 50 nesting sites which are nearly 100% occupied by Blue birds and Tree Swallows that provide natural insect control. In an urban environment it is easy to forget we are all a part of, and totally dependent upon, an ecological system that supports all life. If we believe in the future, we must understand how the consequences of our actions will affect that future. As stewards of our environment, we have a responsibility to future generations.

The 2026 Strawberry Season is coming along very nicely here at Carandale Farm. We are looking to open for picking somewhere around June 12th ish. Things on a farm move fast (and slow) and are often unpredictable so the exact opening day is yet to be presented to us... so please continue to monitor our FB and Website for our Daily Updates.

We have been working hard to keep our strawberry plants happy and healthy. We make sure they have at least one inch of water per week to ensure plant vigor and well-developed berries. A Happy Strawberry Plant will produce the Carandale Quality Strawberries you have come to expect.

We are getting excited for the 2026 Strawberry Season, and seeing all our neighbors, community, and fellow families enjoying some Family Fun on the Farm!!

And now for a little Poo :)

Another beautiful day here at Carandale Farm. The Strawberries are in full bloom and looking good! Not only is Carandale a great place to come 'Pick Sweet Memories' with your family, its also 'picking with a View'...

Being located on the picturesque terminal moraine, and adjacent to our prairie and pine ... our fields always have a view.

There was another frost event last night... mild, but still problematic so we turned the irrigation on around 2am to be safe. All went well and our crop is looking strong 🍓

Season will begin early-to-mid June.... so please continue to monitor our FB for the most current 'State of the Farm' updates.

What an 'Exciting' Spring we have 'endured' out here at Carandale Farm. From the Heavy Frosts that nipped our first strawberry buds to the heavy winds that occurred a couple nights ago, we have been working some 20hr days over the past couple weeks.

Our efforts are starting to shine, and the berries are currently in Full Bloom! I will get some pics for you when it stops raining, but it is a beautiful sight to see. The 2026 Strawberry season is well on its way, and we anticipate picking to begin early-to-mid June.

We Planted our new Strawberries (Over 4.5acres) that will be ready for picking in the 2027 season. The first year we will keep them in vegetative growth and not allow them to produce fruit. This stimulates the plants to send runners that produce more plants to create thick productive rows for the next season.

We indured some very strong winds a couple nights ago that blew down our Carandale Farm sign off Lincoln Rd/Fish Hatchery... which has been standing for over 50years. We also had many trees blow down in which one knocked over our Diesel Fuel and is currently resting on our irreplaceable Irrigation Pump... in which I will carefully liberate when conditions allow. We were able to contain and save our fuel from spilling into the environment and is now upright, safe, and ready to use.

We feel very lucky with some of this bad luck we have had, as we know it could have been worse. The key to farming, and perhaps life, is to continue looking toward the positives and accept the challenges for what they are... lessons in humility and opportunities for growth.

We hope you enjoy the pics and vids, and we look forward to seeing everyone again for 57th year of 'Picking Sweet Memories' here at Carandale Farm.

We had another deep frost last night, but perhaps its the effort of Love that makes it all so much Sweeter ❤️🍓

We will begin planting our next seasons Strawberry Fields tomorrow. This will be a large planting of around 3.5 net acres. This field will take about 2 days to plant with 8 people... but this isnt 'work' for us, this is a Lobor of Love and an exciting time for us!

These 'Strawbabies' will produce the Strawberries that bring community and families together to 'Pick Some Sweet Memories' here at Carandale Farm 🍓

I am, however, Very excited to get some sleep tonight! Finally the Dew Point and Temps will be above 32 degrees - which means No Frost 😀

Wow- 2 more Very 'Exciting' frost events
and VERY Cold nights!! We had some equipment failure 2 nights ago... Very Long Night and scary with temps that low but I did what i could as fast as i could to keep the water running.

We Spent the day yesterday prepping planting fields and fixing equipment for last nights frost event. A few nights of sleeplessness while still working all day - well, thats Farming in Wisconsin for ya.

Last night at 5am my App said 27deg... but thats at about 4' off ground, my thermometers in our low spots read just below 20 degrees!

Check out the 'Ice Leaf' from this morning!!
I hope our 'Straw-babies' were warm enough under their insulating layer of ice!!

Strawberry Fields Forever! ❤️🍓

During the daylight we are working hard picking rocks out of our 2026 strawberry planting fields. This may seem simple, but a 4acre field in the terminal moraine can definately be challenging and interesting.

Sometimes we discover huge boulders we need to dig and tractor out, other times a gazillion medium sized rocks (like this year), but always many beautifully distracting rocks that were deposited by the glacier from all over Wisconsin. We have spent 2 solid days ao far and we are only about 2/3rds done.

So remember this post when your out picking strawberries and u bump you knee on a rock... pleaee know we did our best :)

With this heavy frost tonight we were out today making sure we were ready to protect our Strawberries. We made sure all our irrigation was latched and tight, and wow what a beautiful afternoon to be out walking the fields. Then, of course, we made sure our ponds were topped off and ready to supply a possible 10- 12hr frost event.

How we frost protect our many acres of strawberries is that we first replace all our irrigation nozzles with a smaller nozzles. Then right before frost occurs we turn on the system and mist/lightly spray over al the fields. Ice forms around the leaves, buds, and flowers creating insulation from thr cold.

Once we begin watering we shouldnt stop until above 32 degrees... so long sleepless nights. And of course tonight is a full moon which adds to the frost intensity but also creates a beautiful and energized night.

Below are a few pics from this afternoon and evening....im posting at 2:30am 🍓

Things are Really Starting to POP around here at Carandale Farm! All our crops are currently Looking strong and vigorous - Strawberries, Grapes, Aronia, and Black Currants, etc...

As you know we are a small Generational Family Farm serving our community since 1969. What you may not know is that Most All the Farm Operations are completed with only my Father (Dale Secher), Myself (Cory), and Susan (my sweety). This is the reason we don’t have time to do a lot of Social Media during critical farm operations such as the past 3weeks.

Now that we have got the Spring Operations ‘under control’ (for the moment), and its raining, we wanted to share a few pics/videos of what we have been up to.

The past few weeks we have been hard at work pruning our Concord/Fredonia Grapes and our Black Currants, We un-mulched our Strawberries (took their winter Straw ‘blanket’ off), and of course there is all the Irrigation that needs to be put into place and tested. We got our pre-emergent on our Strawberry fields, and our corn/soy planted (A Big Thankyou to Mr. Jim Laughlin) just before todays rain – yay. In-between all this work we are doing field edge clearing, grass mowing, tree felling/removal, and basic farm/machinery maintenance, etc.

Hope you enjoy the montage of vids/pics of a few of our activities and we look forward to sharing more as the season approaches.

Live – Love – Laugh… Strawberry Season is well on its way 😊 (mid-June).
