Two, enormous, so called planters, sit outside the entrance of building 17. They are filled up with stagnant water accompanied by cigarette butts and other discarded debris. Definitely a cesspool that attract mosquitoes.
This as been going on for years. I have questioned the building organization and the CSO office to no avail as to why they remain. What in the world are their purpose.

Mosquitoes spread diseases such as West Nile Virus, malaria and dengue fever. Mosquitoes breed in soft, moist soil and stagnant water sources such as storm drains, old tires, children's wading pools and birdbaths. NYC's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will conduct its EIGHTH Adulticiding of the season, to reduce the risk of the WEST NILE VIRUS. These so called flower pots have been there for several years. No plants, just dirty murky water with debris. Is this situation going to continue to fester?

If you go to Riverbay to report an issue, many times personnel will say workers don't report them. If a Supervisor sees a problem, isn't if their job to rectify a situation? If they can't complete a task I would assume they report to management. Doesn't management walk around the neighborhood? Many of my neighbors even complain about reporting issues and nothing is rectified. Co-op City is too pretty a place for it to be unkept and maintained.

Hi. We live on the same block as The Garage night club. It has been horrible to say the least. The patrons park on my street and yell, fight, speed, blast music, break car windows etc. at all hours of the night. The cops keep telling us to call but there is no resolve. There have also been shootings in the club. Anyone has any advice on a further course of action? We no longer feel safe in our neighborhood.

Recent visitor post says "In my opinion, these candidates campaigned against the bulk Cablevision deal, promising Verizon FiOS would come in. Well, Verizon is not coming in to Coop City and I, and 13,000 other families, am out $1,500 and another $50 every month.
When will these Riverbay Board directors admit they didn't know what they were talking about or knowingly lied about Verizon coming to Co-op City? When will they take responsibility for costing 13,000 families an extra $50 a month? How do they intend to make up for $19,500,000 already lost and another $650,000 every month? I realize that members of the Board of Directors of Riverbay Corporation get free Optimum cable television, but what about the rest of us?"

UPS Access Point Lockers To Begin Operations In Co-op City
http://www.CoopCityInfo.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1313

With by far the busiest package delivery week of the year at hand, United Parcel Service (UPS), perhaps by as early as Monday, 12/19/16, will begin using three access point locker facilities in Co-op City, one in each community center.

Access Point Lockers are a service recently made available by UPS in select communities whereby drivers who fail to deliver a package to a home on the first try now have the option of placing that package in a secure locker and notifying the resident of its location with specific instructions about how they, and only they, can retrieve the package from the locker unit.

The locker units, which contain several lockers of various sizes all under 24-hour surveillance by the private parcel delivery service, were installed in the Coop City community centers beginning on Thursday, 12/15/16, with Dreiser Center, today, 12/16/16 at Einstein Center and Bartow Center expected to be addressed over the weekend. All three new units are in central exterior locations in each ..... http://www.CoopCityInfo.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1313

Coop City News Wire - Riverbay raising minimum wage of Co-op City employees

Riverbay raising minimum wage of Co-op City employees
http://www.CoopCityInfo.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1304

Approximately 120 Riverbay Co-op City employees will receive an unexpected but needed raise as of January 1, 2017 as Co-op City's Riverbay Board of Directors passed a resolution earlier this month to raise the community's minimum wage to $15 an hour, nearly two years before the new minimum wage becomes mandatory throughout New York State.

According to Riverbay's Finance Director Peter Merola, the resolution will affect approximately 100 to 120 employees, the majority of whom are lobby attendants and the rest being temporary employees hired seasonally to help out the full-time staff when workloads and vacations increase, specifically during the summer months.

For most of these employees, the raise is significant, increasing their hourly wage by as much as $2 to $3 per hour and creating for them what is considered a living wage to help them support their families and pay for housing, food and transportation in this increasingly expensive New York metropolitan area.

Riverbay Treasurer Deborah Jenkins, who also chairs the Board's Labor Relations Committee, said that in light of the New York State legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo enacting legislation to increase the minimum wage in the state to $15 as of the end of 2018, "We thought that Riverbay, as the second largest employer in the Bronx, should not wait until the wage becomes mandatory, but be a leader and show the employees and the rest of the Bronx that the corporation is a good employer and supports its employees. We believe that paying a fair living wage makes for better employees, and increases morale throughout the corporation. And it is just the right thing to do."

The raise will increase the community's salary expenditures by approximately a half million dollars a year, the Riverbay Finance Department reported ........ http://www.CoopCityInfo.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1304

Mattress Disposal throughout Coop City.
http://www.CoopCityInfo.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1301

The City Of New York requires all residents to fully cover all mattresses or box springs in a sealed plastic bag for garbage disposal and collection. This rule was intended to prevent an increase in bed bug activity.

Under the rule, failure to place a mattress or box spring in a proper bag will result in a $100 fine imposed by the City. In addition, Co-op City residents who violate this rule may be subject to a Community Complaint with related fines and legal fees.

The City Of New York and Riverbay Corporation, the management company of Coop City, does not provide mattress or box spring bags or covers but plastic bags to cover mattresses and box spring are available at department stores, such as JCPenney, home improvement centers, such as The Home Depot and large moving and storage companies, such as Public Storage.

Please follow this rule when disposing mattresses and/or box springs. These covered items are to be brought to the basement or placed on the dumpster pads, located throughout the Co-op City complex, for proper trash collection.
