Skywatchers will soon have the chance to witness the first full moon of the spring season rising in the night sky, a celestial event often known as the “Pink Moon.” Despite its name, the moon won’t actually appear pink; instead, the title comes from *Phlox subulata*, a wildflower native to eastern North America that blooms in early spring. Commonly referred to as “moss pink,” this flower typically blossoms around April’s full moon, which is why the seasonal lunar event carries its rosy nickname, according to traditional naming referenced by The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
