- - -Thank you to everyone, for your support and sentiment. When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it. All of us together have written am amazing story together with many twists and turns, ups and downs, and a positive tenacious fortitude that exists with your continued support.
Please reflect upon what you all have created together. Where we were, when we put everything we had into a hope and jumped off the edge with the faith in ourselves and in our community. You proved that they're are many individuals in our region with the values and the courage to seek a better way of life and not accept the poisons that are so pervasive in our food supply. The direction we are headed with conscious unsustainability, is an unacceptable, but malleable path.
Starting with $16k, there is no possible way we wouldve survived even 3 months, let alone 6 1/2 years without you. It has been an unbelievable honor to have been a part of what YOU have created, it is something truly special, and I am so very sorry for letting you down... I started this store for my son's sake, Stephanie started it for her daughter's and we started it for everyone that demands the best for their families. Why would we feed our children foods that will make them weak and sick? My father had MS my whole life, and when he was dying, the last thing he said to me was, can I take him home... can I carry him.... He just wanted to be with his family again........
If we eat j***y foods that fund the bad guys, pretty soon they'll have enough power to control our govt....oops let me rephrase; We can take the power away from the bad guys; all the unethical corporations that delegate our govt's policies. When the director of the FDA is Monsanto's Michael Taylor, I think we can all agree its time to stand up and make a difference. You do that everytime you contribute to a business with a purchase, That is why local is so important. Why ethical local producers need our support, and why we only harm ourselves by supporting the chains that will chain our community into dependence, that take your money out of your community. I don't see how that is more "convenient".
When we realized the slide, the threshold of overhead superceded net income due to stagnant sales from construction, the word "close" came up... I said, you already know what I'll do if we had to close! Open another one. This is a needed part of our community and society. The demand is here and I won't let everyone down. I can't let you all down. I will not let the key most important aspect of our country be taken over and won by the big box chain, in the last place that it ever should. I never thought we would get "W_l-Marted" in the natural foods industry, of all categories of commerce... We all contribute. We all make a difference with the choice we make.
Can Sydney's return? Do you want us to reopen and even better than ever? Can big box chain stores move in with 2.5 million dollars and wow us out of our interest and demand.... For truth?
Can truth be bought or overlooked for a right price? We will see, I think we have seen the choice that the majority has made thus far, over the last 2 decades...
Does a bigger store make the local quality, taste, service and price better? The price maybe, but only in non-local and at what price will you actually pay?
Compare this when on even ground, and we will always be better. We joined a club called INFRA (Independent Natural Food Retailers Association) and they are great. We are still who we are, but paying an annual due, affords us the buying power of more than 360 stores' leverage. They negotiate prices and ensure that we cannot be bought out or undermined by the demands of large corporate influence and power. The guys across the river have a little over 100 stores. Now we are on a level playing field with prices again, in fact at an advantage now... Especially when you consider all the other aspects aleady being inherent qualities of your Sydney's.
We now meet or beat every price in town! So if you will have us back, we humbly ask for your continued support. Words cannot describe how truly thankful I am for all of you that have become a part of our family. Thank you so very much!
I will not allow us to go away, as long as you want us to stay.
So... Chapter one is over, in the beginning of this epic journey, that YOU are a living part of.
