Backyard Fresh We grow vegetables, mushrooms and fruits with the intent to promote health and well-being. We have decided to share our bounty with others.

Jim and I are recently retired and love to grow and raise our own food. We will be selling our produce, mushrooms, eggs (July2023), handcrafted soaps and flowers at Antietam Valley Farm Market on the first and third Monday of each month from May to December (5:00 - 7:00 PM)

From the kitchen of Backyard Fresh, our chickens are the happiest hens in all of Berks County. Our scrambled eggs include eggs from our hens, a fresh supply of golden oyster mushrooms from our woodlot and other ingredients including Carmen peppers as well as freshly ground black pepper and ham.

Backyard Fresh, June 15th 2025. A few pictures of today's harvest including shiitake and golden oyster mushrooms as well as an onion and garlic scapes. Also, our PA Department of agriculture certified kitchen fired up the oven and baked many loaves of bread including oatmeal bread, French bread, and Rosemary Olive Oil bread for tomorrow's 5:00 p.m. Antietam Valley's Farmers market in Carsonia Park.

Saturday, June 14th 2025. Backyard Fresh. Just a moments ago, we harvested both shiitake and golden oyster mushrooms from the woods of backyard fresh farm. More will be harvested between now and Monday for Monday's market at the Antietam Valley Farmers Market located in Carsonia Park.

Thursday, June 12th 2025, Backyard Fresh. Tour of a few things we are doing here at the Backyard Fresh Farm. Our new flock of hens are just now starting to lay eggs, this year, we have the healthiest crop of onions, our fruit bushes and fruit trees are in full growth, this video also includes a quick look at our potatoes flowers and corn. Today is an absolutely beautiful day get out there and work in your garden.

Friday morning, Backyard Fresh. I'll spend the next few days moving this lush pile of horse manure to our Backyard Fresh Farm for composting. We do not use chemical fertilizers, we fertilize our gardens 100% with composted farm animal waste primarily horse manure. It is a long process, at a minimum 6 months to a maximum of 18 months to completely compost horse manure to the point where it can be applied to our gardens.
