One of the questions I get most often is:

“What’s the difference between your soy-free eggs and your regular farm fresh eggs?”

The biggest difference is what the hens eat.

🥚 Soy-Free Eggs come from hens fed a soy-free diet.
🥚 Regular Farm Fresh Eggs come from hens fed a traditional layer feed that contains soy.

Both are:
✅ Farm fresh
✅ Gathered daily
✅ Unwashed
✅ From happy, well-cared-for hens
✅ Nutritious and delicious

Some people choose soy-free eggs because they prefer to avoid soy in their diet or because they feel it fits their personal health goals. Others simply enjoy supporting a specialty feed program.

For most people, there is no significant difference in taste, nutrition, or cooking performance between a fresh soy-free egg and a fresh regular farm fresh egg. Both make great breakfasts, baked goods, and family meals.

Meet Star! ⭐🐔

Star was named by my sweet niece after she hatched her with my dad (her Grampa) a few years ago from a batch of backyard mixed eggs. What started as a family hatching project turned into one of the sweetest hens in the flock.

Star may be a backyard mix, but she has a claim to fame around here—she lays the biggest green eggs in the coop! 💚🥚

If you’ve ever opened a Crazy Chicken Lady carton and found one of those extra-large green eggs, you can thank Star. Every giant green egg that makes its way into the stand comes from this sweet girl.

I love knowing the story behind each of my hens, and Star’s story is one of my favorites because it started with family, a little incubator, and a young girl excited to hatch chicks with her Grampa. ❤️

Do chickens need a rooster to lay eggs?

Nope! 😊

Hens will lay eggs whether a rooster is around or not. A rooster’s job is only to fertilize eggs if you want baby chicks.

🥚 No Rooster = Eggs to Eat
🐓 Rooster + Hen = Fertilized Eggs

And here’s another common question…

Are fertilized eggs safe to eat?

Absolutely! Fertilized eggs are perfectly safe to eat and taste no different than unfertilized eggs.

An egg will only begin developing into a chick if it is kept under incubation conditions for several days. Since our eggs are gathered daily, whether an egg is fertilized or not, it’s headed for your breakfast plate—not the brooder! 🍳😋
