Yellow tomatoes are beginning to size up in the garden. Unlike red tomatoes, yellow varieties contain less lycopene, which gives them their golden color. Most also have lower acidity, resulting in a milder flavor.

These are still ripening and will turn from green to yellow as they mature.

This is a carpenter bee, one of our native pollinators. Despite their size, they’re gentle and spend their days collecting pollen and nectar from flowers like this one.

A few fun facts:
🌼 Excellent pollinators for flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
🐝 Their shiny, hairless black abdomen helps distinguish them from bumble bees.
💛 Males can’t sting, and females rarely sting unless handled.
🌿 They play an important role in keeping our gardens healthy and productive.
🪵 Carpenter bees naturally nest by tunneling into wood. By providing untreated wood or a bee house, we can give them a place to nest that’s away from decks, fences, and other structures.
