Our cause that we're focusing on is childhood obesity in America. Obesity is the fastest growing health crisis in the U.S. and it's going to only get worse if it isn't stopped. The two primary factors of child obesity is a diet that is based on non-health foods and lack of exercise. Nearly 32% of American children are overweight/obese and the number continues to grow as of now. The many dangers of

childhood obesity a higher chance in premature deaths and various types of disabilities in adulthood. Often, obese children are bullied, teased, and made to feel inferior on a number of levels. Obesity caused low-self esteem, many diseases including, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, certain types of cancer, and high cholesterol. If the children of this generation are supposed to be our future leaders, we can't have a country based on people who are struggling with all these issues. Changing the trend of obesity can easily be accomplished as long as parents are willing to accept the responsibility of teaching their children healthy lifestyles. Parents control what goes in their children's mouth and if they are putting junk food into it, their child is bound to be obese in the near future. In America, fast food has taken control on children's health, and it can be stopped if the parents stop buying junk food. Parents must become experts at child and teen nutrition and also set a good example for them.

Researchers found that adolescents are more likely to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day if their parents do. Contrarily, teens whose parents eat fast food or drink soda are more likely to do the same. Parents, let's help reduce childhood obesity by eating healthy with your children!

Coca-Cola is training restaurant staff to "Cap the Tap" and push consumers into ordering soda instead of water. When they call it "pouring profits down the drain," we call it promoting obesity. Big soda corporations shouldn't push sugary drinks on people who prefer water.

This child has to sit out from student activities such as rope climbing due to his weight. Help raise awareness by spreading the word about child obesity. The more people who know about this, the lower the rates of childhood obesity.

Childhood obesity effects one-third of America. That is nearly triple the rate in 1963. In children today, obesity is causing many problems that weren't seen until adulthood. These include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood cholesterol levels. Excess weight at young ages for children has been linked to higher death rates in America. Being overweight, children may not be able to experience the normal activities normal children get. Let's help reduce the rates of childhood obesity.

The teen years are supposed to be about socialization, independence, and personal development. Unfortunately with teenagers and obesity they are deprived of some of these because their obesity gets in the way.

Today at LACMA, we took a look an inside look at art with social conscience and learned how many artists used art as their way to spread a message about an issue that was happening during their time. Here is some art that depicts the issue of obesity in America
