Happy National Grab Some Nuts Day! (I kid you not... But I speak of the ‘Planters’ kind, I’m not trying to get you fired by HR!) Have you ever heard of the Pili nut? If not, it’s one of the best nuts you’ve never tried. The Pili nut, aka the Golden Nut, hails from southeast Asia and northern Australia, but The Philippines is the only country that cultivates, produces and processes Pili nuts commercially. These edible nuts grow on the Pili nut tree, scientifically referred to as Canarium Ovatum. It is dubbed as the next Superfood, and deservedly so, as it boasts a full amino acid profile to make it a good source of protein for vegetarians and vegans, has the highest content of Magnesium and Vitamin E of any nut, and is a rich source of healthy Omegas; nearly half of the fat found in Pili nuts comes from beneficial, heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, which can help lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the risk for heart disease. If that wasn’t enough, they have the added benefit of tasting great - they are compared to a cross between an almond, a cashew nut and macadamia nut. They turn slightly creamy when heated and were even compared to a "plant-based foie gras" by . You don’t have to take a trip to The Philippines to sample these delicious and nutritious nuts (although everyone should visit The Philippines at least once in their life 😉), as you can grab some of these nuts at the Peele (pronounced ‘Peelee‘) stand at various Farmers Markets around Las Vegas, as well as online. I am totally nutty about these nuts, especially the Honey Roasted variety!
