This is what a freezer full looks like after a processing weekend.

Every bird raised right here on our farm from 1-3 day old chicks to harvest.

There is something really satisfying about knowing exactly where our food comes from and how it was raised.

We don’t waste any of it. From the meat, making bone meal for the dogs, and canning delicious bone broth. It all have a use here.

We do have a limited number of chicken shares available from upcoming batches if your looking to fill your freezer with pasture-raised chicken.

Not exactly what people picture when they think of raising chickens.. but this was a pretty normal day for ours.

We needed to make a few repairs to the new chicken tractor after the wind storm, so we let this group explore a bit while we worked.

Usually we’d let them roam even more, but with hawks flying over as often as they do, we have to be careful. Meat birds aren’t nearly as spry as our free-range hens.

Still, giving them a chance to scratch through the brush, explore, and act like actual chickens matters to us.

It’s a little more work- you should have seen us catching them to go back in the tractor- but we believe it’s worth it!

This is where our food starts. You are what your food eats.

Went out to do a quick check and came back with this. 😅

Our dogs usually coexist pretty well with the chickens, but our black mouth cur decided to chase one under the coop.

When I coaxed her back out to make sure she was okay… I found her secret stash.

13 eggs tucked away under there.

Did the water test just to be safe, and they were all good.

Anyone else have hens that refuse to use nesting boxes?🥚

I saw a video today about the *recent* Costco rotisserie chicken situation and it reminded me of something that happened at our house recently.

For years I’ve made our dogs’ food from scratch. Usually I use chicken we raised, but our freezer was getting low while we wait to process our first 2026 batch this weekend. My husband grabbed a few whole chickens from the grocery store and said, “They eat chicken poo, they’ll be fine.” 😂

I cooked everything the same way I always do — sweet potatoes, kelp, brown rice, salmon oil, bone meal.

But when I started shredding the chicken, it smelled horrible. Like it had already turned. I even pulled the packaging out of the trash to check the dates, but they were fine.

And honestly… this isn’t the first time we’ve noticed something like that with store-bought meat.

Moments like that are a big reason we decided to start raising some of our own food. We’re incredibly thankful for the farmer who taught us how.

We recently started offering a small number of chicken shares, and we’re also thinking about hosting a local class for anyone who wants to learn how to raise their own meat birds.

No pressure — just sharing what we’re learning along the way. 🐓

TWO new classes are posted for sale on the website, and I think you will really like them!! I have 2 custom orders for these hats right now so we will have a lot of fun making them. These welcome mats are a new thing for me, but I keep seeing them pop up online and NEED ONE!!
