✨Things to remember if you buy homemade goods, baked items, produce or farm fresh and homemade anything..not just from me but from others as well. ✨
🥚Eggs- if you buy farm fresh eggs that have not been washed or refrigerated, you can sit them on your counter until you’re ready to use them. They have a natural bloom surrounding the shell that protects bacteria from entering the eggs. Once you wash or refrigerate them, you must continue to refrigerate them.
🥒🍅Produce- garden produce is not the same as grocery store produce in the aspect of staying fresh. Grocery store produce has additives, preservatives, and other coatings to keep the produce fresher for longer. That’s why if you buy fruit from the grocery store it will last for months. That’s not the case if you buy it fresh from someone. It will go bad quicker if you don’t use it. This is actually a good thing and the way it should be. Fruits and vegetables shouldn’t still look picture perfect after weeks of sitting around.
🥖🍞Homemade Breads- similar to produce. It doesn’t have preservatives. It will go bad quickly if you don’t eat it or freeze. Also, if you buy homemade breads don’t expect every loaf to always look the same. Your baker may be feeling creative one day and do fancy scoring designs on top. The next time she may be swamped and just give you a basic score. The bread is the same. It just looks different. Sometimes her kitchen may be warmer and the bread may have a different rise than the next time when her kitchen is cooler. This is also to be expected. Expect homemade, healthy, and tasty, not perfect.
💜If you buy homemade goods don’t expect them to taste exactly like the processed store bought goods you’re used to. That’s the point. Using fresh and natural ingredients without all the extra ingredients, additives and chemicals is going to taste different. You should expect this.
🍝If you buy homemade foods that require cooking, you should know that the cooking instructions may be different than what you’re used to with store bought. For example, homemade pasta noodles take wayyy less time than store bought noodles to cook. Make sure you know how to cook homemade food properly before you assume the instructions are the same as from a box.
📦Anything homemade may require different storing instructions than store bought. Make sure you know how to correctly store your homemade foods so they stay fresher longer.
👩🏽🍳People that create things from scratch or grow produce don’t have commercial kitchens, labs for testing, or an assortment of preservatives and chemicals to put in their products. You should expect certain small inconsistencies if you’re buying fresh from someone. Their tomatoes may grow huge one week and the next week not be as big. Your baker may bake your loaf of bread in a different loaf pan than the last time. You can expect these things.
💚You can also expect that someone took time to create these products. There was care put into growing, baking, designing, and preparing these products for you. You are getting basic, healthy, natural ingredients when you buy homemade. You are also supporting someone’s business or hobby! If you have any questions about something you bought from us, please ask! We are always thankful yall choose to buy things that we spent a lot of time caring and creating for you!
