What a year it's been,
How strange,
When the closeness of our hearts had to overcome the six feet between our shopping carts.
Standing in the TP aisle
You thought
Did shopping ever make me smile?
But hark, what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the sun, the farmers market wakes.

From near and nearer here they come,
The farmers, cooks and bakers one by one
With masks and gloves and safety signs taped up
They sanitized then filled the truck.
Safety first, but groceries too -
The local food system is here for you.
Shop outdoors with naught but tent for window, roof and wall!
Come fill the fridge, heed the call!

Though we close the market when temps are frigid,
The winter months will soon be bridge'd.
Look for us when spring winds sweep, when blooms appear and grass grows deep.
Look for tents where ere were none;
Neighbors will meet, kids will run.

Not every year will be 2020
But the farmers market will still have plenty
To offer those who would forget the charm
Of waiting in lines spaced two yards (the length of your arm and my arm!).
With fruits and flowers, veggies and meats, eggs and honey, and so many baked treats
The market will come back to you where you are
With foods grown or made somewhere really not far.

Queens Botanical Garden Farmers Market

We are a neighborhood farm stand featuring locally farmed fruits, vegetables, honey, eggs and more. Find us outside the Queens Botanical Garden on Dahlia Avenue at Main Street in Flushing on Fridays from 8:30AM to 4PM, mid-June until the end of November. SNAP EBT is welcome and Health Bucks are available. FMNP WIC and Seniors checks can be used to buy produce from June through November.

Since 1991, Down to Earth Markets has been connecting cooks and eaters to New York’s local food producers by bringing the region’s farmers and food makers together at community-based farmers markets. We are a mission-driven “best for the world” B Corp focused on the people and small businesses building a strong and sustainable local food system.

As a member of the farmers market community, I value mother earth and I do my best to continue to stay updated with information regarding our planet. Regenerative agriculture is going to change the world, and I cannot wait to see it! I recently learned about this farming practice after watching Kiss the Ground on Netflix. The film left me inspired! It brings necessary attention to regenerative agriculture: a process that allows CO2 emissions to go back down into plants and heal our soil. This will allow the cooling of our land and the reversal of global warming. As well as the introduction of this farming technique, the film highlights different influential individuals who are at the front of such a significant cause! Below is the official movie trailer, and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
