What is a frizzle chicken?
(Pic: Jeff our frizzle rooster)

Frizzle chickens are not a specific breed but rather a feathering trait that can be found in various chicken breeds. Their most notable feature is their curly, frizzled feathers that give them a unique, almost comical look. The "frizzle" gene causes their feathers to curl outward instead of lying flat, creating a fluffy, messy appearance. This trait can be found in both bantam and standard-sized Frizzle chickens.

The origins of Frizzle chickens are somewhat mysterious, but they are believed to have originated in Asia. Historical records indicate that they were likely first bred in Japan or Southeast Asia, where their distinct feathers made them stand out among other chicken breeds. Over time, Frizzle chickens spread to Europe and North America, where they became popular among poultry fanciers.

Although Frizzle chickens are not a recognized breed in their own right, the frizzling gene has been passed down through various breeds. Some of the most popular Frizzle chicken varieties include the Frizzle Cochin, Frizzle Brahma, and Frizzle Polish.

I thought I would post some info from time to time. Comment and let us know if you want me to continue doing this.

TAMUK meat rabbits:
A composite breed created by Texas A&M university Kingsville, are a cross of seven different breeds: New Zealand Red, Siamese Satin, Californian, New Zealand White, Dutch, Champagne d'Argent, Harlequin, and Havana. Because of this they can birth a variety of colors and patterns in their offspring. They were developed specifically to handle the Texas summers. Full grown they will weigh 10-12 lbs.
TAMUKs are generally ready to process at 10 weeks at around 5-6lbs. They can have their first litter at 5 months.
They are very docile and friendly.
Meat rabbits take up very little room on the farm, you can get started with a breeding pair with just 2 cages (24"×24"to36"). They take very little time daily to care for. They have the lowest feed conversion ration of any farm animals, and if you have a garden you lower that even more.
Rabbit manure is garden gold, you can apply it directly to your garden without composting it.
1 doe can have 6-12 kits (babies) per litter, and can even be bred again before they give birth. Rabbits have a 31 day Gestation rate. Conservatively if you breed 6 times a year @10 kits per litter with 3lbs of dressed meat each, you will provide
180 lbs of high protein low fat meat for your family.
Rabbits require less equipment to process and alot less mess too.
Rabbit meat is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, high in protein and low in calories. Compared to beef, pork, lamb, turkey, veal and chicken, rabbit has the highest percentage of protein, the lowest percentage of fat and has the fewest calories per pound.
To summerize, Rabbit is King for small scale homesteads!
