A simple question tells you almost everything you need to know about where your beef comes from:

“Can you tell me the name of the local ranch this beef came from and where it’s located? Or is this boxed beef?”

A reputable butcher should be able to answer honestly.

If it’s local beef, they can usually tell you the ranch.

If it’s boxed beef, they’ll likely tell you that, too.

And if they can’t—or won’t—tell you where the beef was raised, that’s an answer in itself.

There’s nothing wrong with boxed beef. It’s how many grocery stores, restaurants and butcher shops source their beef.

But if your goal is to support local agriculture, buying from a local butcher doesn’t automatically mean you’re buying local beef.

Supporting local businesses matters.

Supporting local ranchers matters too.

The only way to know where your beef comes from is to ask.

Farmers should be celebrated every day, but today we’re especially proud to celebrate the people who make agriculture their way of life. ❤️

At Dakota Angus, raising cattle means early mornings, late nights, changing seasons and a whole lot of work in between. But it also means caring for our animals, stewarding the land and raising quality beef we’re proud to put on our own table—and yours.

On National Farmers Day, we’re grateful for our fellow farmers and ranchers across North Dakota and beyond who keep showing up, season after season.

And to everyone who chooses to buy directly from farmers and ranchers like us: thank you. Your support allows family operations to keep doing what we love. 🥩🌾

Happy National Farmers Day from Dakota Angus!

Crockpot season is officially here! 🥩🍂

But when it comes time to pick a roast… which one should you grab?

Some are perfect for that fall-apart, fork-tender pot roast. Others are better for slicing, shredding or turning into beef and noodles. The right roast depends on what’s for dinner!

Swipe through our Roast 101 to find the right cut for your next cozy meal.

Then all that’s left to do is set it, forget it and come home to dinner. 🙌

Shop Dakota Angus roasts and get that crockpot working!

Why is Dakota Angus grass-fed and grain-finished?

Because we’re raising beef for exceptional eating.

Every one of our cattle spends its life on grass. But during the finishing phase, we transition to a carefully balanced grain ration.

Why?
Because grain finishing develops the marbling that makes beef tender, juicy and full of flavor.
Marbling is also what earns higher USDA quality grades like Prime and Certified Angus Beef®.
Could we produce 100% grass-fed beef?
Absolutely.
But that’s not the beef we set out to raise.
Our goal is simple: produce the best steak possible.
That’s why more than 30% of our cattle grade USDA Prime, and nearly 100% qualify for Certified Angus Beef® or better.

It’s a choice we make because we believe incredible flavor is worth it.
