People ask if Lou James & Co. is a grocery store, gift shop, or general store, and honestly it's a little bit of all of those, but not in the traditional sense.
The easiest way to explain it is that we're creating a modern small-town mercantile built around the idea of "Slow Goods. Good Living." We want it to feel like the kind of place you wander into for one thing and end up staying awhile.
We'll have practical everyday items; pantry staples, fresh baked goods & baking ingredients, bulk foods, snacks, drinks, and grab & go things... a true general store…but everything is being intentionally chosen rather than trying to be a giant carry all store.
There will be nostalgic candy, candles, home goods, gifts, household items, local and regional products, fun discoveries, and those little things people didn't know they needed until they saw them.
The goal isn't shelves packed with endless options. It's more about carrying things that feel useful, nostalgic, or special.
I want people to walk in and feel the same way they do when they visit a really great old general store: warm, comfortable, a little curious, and wanting to look around. Somewhere you can grab ingredients for supper, find a gift for a friend, grind your own fresh peanut butter, or sit and connect with people over a puzzle & a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
More than anything, we're trying to create a place that feels like it belongs in the heart of the community.
