CochinChaos I'm a small homsteader set out on sharing quality bantam cochins, chinese brown geese and meat rabbits.

If I can grow it, make it or barter for it, I am all for it.

Being overwhelmed isn't necessarily a bad thing, it means I'm always busy and go, go, go.

This weekend is coop building, gotta have somewhere to house all the eggs that were just put in the incubator!

I got a call this morning, that went as follows.

Him: Hi, I'm X, I have an earlier delivery slot, and would you like it?

Me: Sure! When are you thinking?

Him: I can be there at Noon today.

Me: ~jawdrop~ Ok! I can make it work.

And that's the convo. Thankfully, my boss is amazeballs and didn't grump about my taking off middle of the day, not knowing if it'd be for a couple hours, or the rest of the day. (I went back.) Teresa and Manny were there, and he (Manny) had jokes, "I hope it doesn't tip over!" then runs off giggling like a damn lil kid, only to come back, "Hope no windows are broke.. what if the door falls off?" I may kick him.

All that said, I feel like the little girl in "We Bought a Zoo!". I have wanted this for so, so long, and it's finally happening. It won't be easy and it's only just starting, but I can not wait to see what I make of this.

So much has been done, and yet, so much to do. Im ready to build my coops, and finish the Garrison and Run fencing, and get a meat pen setup. Thanks to Amber, a new (I hope) friend, I have 20 Cornish crosses coming in just over a month.

As I walked across the street to help my neighbor, I was hit by the reality of knowing in a couple weeks, I'll be out here, enjoying the cleane air, woodland sounds and enjoying a fire and glass of wine.

It can't come soon enough!

Another long, productive day. The Goose Garrison is 80% cleared, which means... Time for more fencing and barracks. I can't wait for Squeaks and Nibs to see all the space and soo much greenery to eat.

Got the 2nd drive cleared.. and discovered a hole, by falling in it, as only I could do. Now it's blocked by a cone, thankfully, it's the 2nd drive, not main.

Tomorrow is another day of work and that sense of pride knowing, "I did this", I can't wait to be out here full time. I'm counting down the days.

It's another amazing day. Today is Friday, which means I'm off work, and working on the Homestead. Fencing to build, runs to clear out and a coop to build!

Thankfully, weather looks amazing and I hope I get another accomplished. One day my fencing will look like this!

Riddle me this.. I go to gather eggs, and I get my normal couple of eggs... and I check the geese to see if they're laying. I notice their nesting area is disturbed, and I get exited, first goose egg of the year!

Nope.

Somehow, someway, some hen... laid an egg in the Goose Garrison. I check daily, so it's not an old egg, it's also not a color I typically get, nor the size I get of the similar color. With my murderous geese, Squeaks and Nibs have removed (at least) 4 of my cochins. They all stay away from the shared fence.

So please, tell me how a hen managed to lay in their area, because I am befuddled.

I don't detect a bit of sass coming from this group, do you? No, not these adorable little fluff balls. There's a couple in there I'm really excited about.

Out of all things "chicks" What's your favorite part of them being babies? I think mine has to be when they square up and act like they're big, bad and tough. Not tiny balls of floof.

14 new chick's. I think I'm going to hang on to them for a bit and see how they color up. Looking like a few mottled, couple partridge, a blue and some calicos! Pics in the morning! For now.. enjoy this adorable piranha.

I finally decided on both my page and farm name. Cochin Chaos at the Halfway Homestead.

For my new people, I breed and raise quality bantam cochins focused on type and personality. No, my birds aren't perfect, but each season, they get better and better. 3 seasons in and I'm still learning.

I've added chinese brown geese and meat rabbits to my homestead and let me tell you.. it's never a dull day!

Soon, I'll be uprooting all my animals and moving across town to a fantastic plot of land where I can really spread my wings and grow! I can't wait to take yall on the adventure with me!
