The work never ends. On hot days our chores run late into the night. By the time everything was said and done it was 10:30 PM.

Even though they’re big and tough, the heat takes its toll on these cattle, especially the babies. We moved them slow and easy in the cool of the evening.

This bull calf is Fluffy’s baby. He is a black baldie and he has no color (pigment) around his eyes. His eyes have always been sensitive but now they’re really affected. He has a mild case of pink eye, so we treated him for that, put an eye patch on for some relief, and I’m going to order him a fly mask.

Right now he’s in our front yard because it’s the shadiest piece of our property. We will put ointment in his eyes every day for the next three or four days and see how he does.

I think I’ll give Fluffy a bath this week. ❤️

I check beef prices every time I go to the grocery store. As research for pricing, to see the quality of beef, etc.

My mouth fell open and I said “gawdam” out loud when I saw $25/lb chuck roast.

I don’t even know what to say about beef prices.

At that price point families will be skipping beef because it’s so expensive. I am not down with that.

It’s insane.

Could I increase prices to match our competition? Sure.

Will I? Not a chance.

We are staying true to ourselves, our morals and our values.

Making money has never been the goal. We want to feed our community.

Is that bad for business? Maybe.
But what is business anyway, really. We charge enough to pay our bills with a little extra on the side.

We get to live this awesome life, working the cattle, ranching, putting food on the table. That’s the pay out right there. I tell you what.

If you need beef at a fair price, call me or send me a message.

We’re quittin cattle and pursuing squirrels full time. 😂

Just look at that shiny coat and fat cover. We clearly know how to grow ‘em.

I know some of y’all eat these… comment your favorite way to cook squirrels ! No judgement!

If the market booth could talk! 😂

Y’all I hear EVERYTHING, my mama just raised me on that time honored tradition of if I don’t have anything nice to say I shouldn’t say anything at all.

But my mama never said nothin’ about posting it online 😂

I forgot about this comment until today!!

No surprise it was someone who has never purchased our beef.

Should I start posting the rude comments I get? 😂😬🤷‍♀️🏆

Walking the hay field is a nice way to unwind after a long day. It smells so good.

May is for hay.

Did you know we grow, cut, and bale our own hay to feed our cows in the winter?

It’s true. During the month of May we don’t schedule any harvests, major events or plan vacations. The Cowboys puts in 16 hour days, often working into the dark.

He doesn’t do it alone. Friends help rake. Our neighbors help get the bales off the field and stack it in the barn. Community. Our community. Your community.

It is time consuming and time sensitive. In order to maintain the nutrients the hay has to be cut, cured and baled with a certain amount of moisture still in the hay.

It can’t be too wet or it molds and we can’t feed it. Too dry, it turns to straw.

Why am I sharing this info? Because it’s the way we live, and it’s how we raise our animals. I like to think of it as a value added product in the production of our beef. It’s one way our time and energy is spent to get our beef on your table.
