Veggie Van Gogh is a mobile produce market created by the Black Swan Center of Excellence in Boydton, Virginia. Our goal is to bring fresh, affordable food, garden kits, and nutrition education directly into rural food deserts—places where grocery stores are miles away and families struggle with access to healthy options. While our mobile trailer is in production, we’re already making an impact by

:

- Providing Grow Southside Kits with seedlings, compost, and easy instructions for home gardening.

- Offering one-off produce sales to local families in need.

- Partnering with community groups to distribute free vegetable plants to seniors and SNAP households. Veggie Van Gogh is part of a larger vision at Black Swan: empowering youth and families through entrepreneurship and food security. Our programs include the Youth Venture Hub—where kids learn business by running a vending machine and preparing for the upcoming Boydton Children’s Business Fair (October 2025). Together, these efforts create a pathway where families not only gain access to healthy food but also the tools, skills, and confidence to build sustainable futures.

Attn: This morning (May 27) we have an "urgent" request from Virginia Cooperative Extension.

"request your assistance with asking frost/freeze impacted growers (all commodities) to report their estimated losses to their local FSA office as soon as possible for entering into FSA's system. Preferably today. This is an urgent request with potential ramifications for the growers. Note that if your growers have already reported their losses to FSA they do not need to do so again. Thank you for your time and assistance with this important matter."

They’ve made a couple of updates to their upcoming workshops:
🍃 Salve Making Workshop
Rescheduled due to snow — now happening Tuesday, 2/28 from 9:00–11:00 AM.
Learn how to create your own herbal salves using natural ingredients.
🪱 Composting Workshop
The earlier February session was canceled due to low sign-ups, but they’re still hosting composting on 2/28 from 12:00–2:00 PM, right after the salve workshop.
Perfect for gardeners wanting to improve soil health and reduce waste.
💚 Many workshops require materials to be purchased and prepared ahead of time, so advance registration is requested to help keep fees affordable.
