This may not look like anything special, but it is. This is a rain barrel on steroids. By reusing rain water 💦 instead of the garden hose for watering the yard, both your water bill and sewer bill will decrease. Sewer bills are based on your water bill. Everything shown here you can get at a farm supply or maybe even Lowe's, and it screams DIY. Rain water would fill the tank up fast.

Building a Simple Rainwater Harvesting System

Rainwater harvesting is a practical and environmentally friendly way to conserve water for gardening, farming, and other outdoor uses.
The system shown above uses an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tank fitted with a protective roof, creating an efficient setup for collecting and storing rainwater.

By capturing rainwater from rooftops or other collection surfaces, homeowners can reduce dependence on municipal water supplies and lower utility costs.
Stored rainwater can be used for irrigating gardens, watering livestock, cleaning outdoor areas, and supporting various agricultural activities.
This makes rainwater harvesting especially valuable during dry seasons or in regions where water conservation is important.

The addition of a simple roof helps keep debris, leaves, and excessive sunlight out of the tank, improving water quality and reducing algae growth.
Combined with proper filtration and maintenance, such systems can provide a reliable source of water throughout the year.
Ultimately, rainwater harvesting promotes sustainability, resource conservation, and self-sufficiency.

With relatively low installation costs and long-term benefits, it is an effective solution for individuals seeking to manage water resources responsibly while supporting environmentally conscious living.

⚫️ If your yard, sidewalk, or driveway is getting torn up right now, you’re not alone.

Utility companies do have the legal right to dig inside a right‑of‑way or easement — even when it runs straight through your property.
🟢But you have rights too, especially when it comes to damage, restoration, safety, and how your property is treated.

In the next day or two, we’ll share some simple steps every Bellbrook homeowner can take to protect their property and their sanity if you want to protect yourself.

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝.

Be a champ and help clean up the Little Miami River this year. The 16th Annual Little Miami Watershed Network Cleanup is back — a tradition that started with a few neighbors and has grown into a community effort Bellbrook can be proud of.

𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 — 𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬.

They’re looking for volunteers for both canoe cleanups and walking cleanups along the river and streams. Whether you’re paddling a canoe full of old tires or walking the riverbank with friends, you’ll be living life and helping the Little Miami River too.

All supplies are provided. All ages are welcome.
It’s a fun way to spend a day outdoors with your community.

Registration link is in the comments or at lmwn.org/events.

This effort is supported (in part) by the Nick and Edna Weller Charities — a big deal for our area. They fund programs that restore forests, meadows, and river corridors across several states. For them to invest in our Little Miami River says something important: Means we are worth the money.
