A partnership between Chef Todd Ginsberg and Shelley Sweet, Ben Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson (the folks behind West Egg Cafe), The General Muir is a tribute to the classic New York Jewish Deli, returning it to its hand-crafted roots. Traditional favorites are honored ā€“ pastrami is cured and smoked in house, bagels are kettle boiled and hand rolled ā€“ and joined by dishes going beyond tradition, focusing on fresh ingredients and simple preparations. The General Muir is named for the refugee transport ship that brought owner Jennifer Johnson's mother and grandparents, Holocaust survivors, to New York in 1949. The General Muir opened in 2013 at Emory Point (aka The Point), the mixed-use development on Clifton Road next to the campus of Emory University, across the street from the CDC. A second location opened January 2021 at City Springs, in Sandy Springs, GA.

Because one special coffee feature isnā€™t enough for this change in the coffee season (ahem, weā€™re just going to have to pretend fall is here), we bring you the Pumpkin Spice Latte (but of course) AND a White Chocolate Maple Latte (espresso, housemade spiced white chocolate, maple syrup, choice of milk) this month. Emory University students: donā€™t miss out on Wednesdays at The General Muir! Did you know our burger was the inspiration for the burger in the movie ā€œThe Menuā€? As Eater Atlanta pointed out in their ā€œbest burgersā€ write-up: ā€œMichelin-recommended General Muir has been serving owner and chef Todd Ginsbergā€™s iconic Double Stack Burger for many years [since 2013!] in Atlanta, and locals can grab an iteration on the go at Krog Street Marketā€™s Fred's Meat & Bread. Beyond Atlanta, chef John Benhase, who consulted on the film The Menu, recently revealed that the burger in the movie was inspired by his experiences as a sous-chef at the General Muir and described how the approach to crafting a burger at the restaurant profoundly influenced his understanding and appreciation of the dish.
