🧀 Okay, but what the heck is Abergele?
Fair question — because this isn’t a cheese you’re going to find just anywhere.
Abergele has its roots right here in Central Wisconsin.
In 2007, the Bredl family purchased the former Cloverbelt cheese plant near Edgar, Wisconsin, and began making cheese as Harmony Specialty Dairy Foods. Building on their family’s dairy farming background and working alongside experienced local cheesemakers, they developed the Golden Age line of British-inspired cheeses.
And Abergele? That one was their own creation.
It’s a smooth, creamy, buttery cheese with a little tang — somewhere in the neighborhood of a Havarti or young Gouda, but with a character all its own.
Our Portabella & Chive Abergele takes that original cheese and adds earthy portabella mushrooms with savory chives for a combination that is rich, creamy and seriously good.
Melt it into eggs. Put it on a burger. Make one heck of a grilled cheese. Or just grab a knife and start slicing.
