Hoima City Stadium, which was recently completed and opened ahead of AFCON 2027 preparations, has been flagged by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for failing to meet Category 4 standards required to host Africa Cup of Nations matches.

According to CAF inspection findings, the stadium has strong structural quality but still falls short in key operational and competition requirements such as crowd flow, media facilities, and player areas.

Reports indicate issues including poor separation between VIPs, teams, media and ordinary fans, non-compliant dressing rooms, and a misplaced mixed zone located within the competition area.

The position of team benches also affects visibility for spectators, while media and press facilities are considered below AFCON standards.
Because of these gaps, CAF stated that Hoima Stadium requires major reconfiguration before it can be approved for tournament matches, with Uganda given until the next inspection phase to fix the issues ahead of AFCON 2027.

In short, the stadium is complete—but not yet fully compliant for CAF’s top international tournament requirements.
