The story of the Roman Empire begins in 27 BC, when Augustus became its first emperor, transforming Rome from a republic into a powerful empire. At its height, Rome controlled vast lands across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, connected by roads, laws, and a shared culture that shaped the ancient world. Its armies were unmatched, its cities advanced, and its influence enduring. But over time, internal struggles, economic decline, and constant invasions weakened its strength. In 330 AD, Emperor Constantine the Great shifted power eastward by founding Constantinople, dividing the empire’s focus. By 476 AD, the Western Roman Empire collapsed when the last emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was overthrown. Yet even in its fall, Rome’s legacy lived on, shaping law, architecture, and civilization for centuries to come. #@
