The Coral Triangle is an area in the world where 6 countries home 76% of the worldโs coral reef species. Thereโs Malaysia, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, and the Philippines is the epicenter of this spit, making us one of the most marine biodiverse countries on Earth.
Our partner fisherfolk of Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro, is at the heart of this region, by the passage with the highest concentration of marine species, nicknamed โthe Amazon of the Oceanโ: The La Verde Island Passage. It harbors 60% of the worldโs marine species, with a staggering 1,736 of them overlapping per 10 square kilometer area.
