Sa X post ng political commentator na si Atty. Jesus Falcis nitong Miyerkules, Nobyembre 26, ibinahagi niya ang isang lumang litrato ni Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia, kuha noong Oktubre 1, 2021, nang maghain ito ng certificate of candidacy (COC) para sa kliyente nito, si noon ay Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero.

Practicing lawyer ng mga panahong iyon si Garcia at bilang abogado ni Escudero—na muling nahalal na senador noong 2022—malaki umano ang posibilidad na si Garcia rin ang nag-file ng Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) ni Escudero pagkatapos ng eleksiyon, ayon kay Falcis.

Ang parehong SOCE kung saan inamin ni Escudero na tumanggap siya ng P30-million campaign donation mula sa kaibigang contractor na si Lawrence Lubiano, presidente ng Centerways Construction.

At ang parehong SOCE na naging batayan ni ngayon ay Comelec Chairman Garcia para i-“terminate” ang motu propio investigation “against Senator Chiz Escudero’s violation of accepting campaign contributions from a ‘contractor’ Lawrence Lubiano.”

Dagdag pa ni Falcis, “it’s most likely George Garcia who prepared or gave advice to Chiz Escudero as to what to fill up and what to declare in Escudero’s 2022 SOCE,” ipinaliwanag na ang deadline sa SOCE filing noong 2022 ay Hunyo 8, habang itinalaga naman si Garcia bilang Comelec chairman noong Hulyo 22, 2022.

“There is a conflict of interest with George Garcia heading the COMELEC and investigating Chiz Escudero’s liabilities for his 2022 SOCE and acceptance of prohibited contributes when it was George Garcia himself who was Escudero’s lawyer for the 2022 Elections!” punto pa ni Falcis.

🌍 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟯𝟬: 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 😑

The world is literally burning, yet our so-called "climate leaders" at COP30 have once again proven that profits outweigh people and planet. Despite the urgent scientific warnings and the summit being held in the heart of the Amazon, the final agreement is a catastrophic failure.

𝗡𝗢 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲-𝗢𝘂𝘁! The most critical issue—the very fuel of the crisis—was shamefully blocked and is completely absent from the final text. This is a deliberate surrender to the petrostates and fossil fuel lobbyists who had a massive presence at the talks. The era of oil, gas, and coal will continue unchallenged.

𝗡𝗢 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲-𝗢𝘂𝘁!. The opportunity to create a concrete, global roadmap to end deforestation was squandered. Holding COP in Belém, a gateway to the Amazon, was supposed to be a symbol of hope, but the final outcome is a betrayal of the forest and the Indigenous Peoples who protect it.

𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗝𝗼𝗸𝗲. The commitment to triple adaptation finance for vulnerable nations was a key promise, but the goal was pushed back to 2035 instead of the crucial 2030 deadline. Developing nations needed a lifeline now, not a decade from now. This is historical polluters shirking their debt.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. The window to keep warming below 1.5 degrees is closing. The UN process is structurally broken when it allows narrow self-interest to repeatedly sabotage our collective future.

To the politicians who failed us: You may have a deal, but you have no credibility.

To the Activists, Indigenous Leaders, and Youth: We are the real change-makers. We will not stop fighting for a Just Transition. The real work happens on the streets and in our communities.
