Most parents think they need MORE money.
What they actually need is BETTER money sense.
Two days ago, during our first session at Pulseford Business School, something happened that forced the whole class to go quiet.
We were discussing wealth building, investing wisely, and how to transfer wealth to the next generation.
Then one of my students, a mother - raised her hand and said:
“Sir, I have children. I’m looking for how to multiply my source of income so I can take care of them now and in the future.”
Everybody nodded.
That sounds like a very reasonable question.
But....
My answer shocked the room.
I told her:
“In many cases, you don’t need to multiply your income.
What you need is better financial management and financial literacy.”
Let me explain this with the truth many parents don’t Like to Hear.
You can double your income today,
and still remain broke tomorrow
if your mindset around money doesn’t change.
I’ve seen people earn ₦50,000 and survive. I’ve seen people earn ₦500,000 and struggle.
So income is not always the problem. Understanding money is.
As a parent, the first investment you must make is not land, not stocks, not crypto.
It is financial literacy for your children.
Any child above 5 years old can understand how money works.
Start with simple things:
1: NEEDS vs WANTS
A need is something you cannot do without like food.
A want is something you can live without.
But here’s the wisdom:
A need can turn into a want depending on how you handle it.
Let me give you some Example:
If you earn ₦50,000 monthly and you’re hungry…
Eating food from Mama Ngozi’s buka for ₦1,500–₦2,000 is a need.
But....
Eating the same rice every day in Chicken Republic or Mega Chicken for ₦10,000–₦15,000 is no longer a need.
That is now a want.
Teach your children this early, and you remove the pressure of comparison. They won’t feel inferior because of what their classmates have.
2: ASSETS vs LIABILITIES
Teach them that:
Asset = brings money into your pocket
Liability = takes money out of your pocket
This single lesson can save a child 30 years of financial suffering.
As your Financial Literacy Advocate, let me tell you the STRATEGY THAT BREAKS FAMILY POVERTY (Read This Twice)
I shared a principle I live by, called:
The "Iking Home Economic Literacy"
Instead of hiring a house help to cook, clean, and wash dishes…
Make your children the workers.
Create division of labor:
One cleans
One washes plates
One helps with cooking
Then, and this is the key - PAY THEM.
Weekly or monthly. The same money you would have paid a house help.
Why?
Because you’re teaching them:
Money follows work.
Now.....
let me tell you The MOST POWERFUL PART
Any money you pay them, teach them to divide it into THREE:
1: INVESTMENT
2: GIVING (CHARITY)
3: PERSONAL ENJOYMENT
Let me tell you Why this works:
Investment teaches ownership and patience
Giving teaches gratitude and abundance
Enjoyment teaches balance and self-care
For investment, allow them to invest in:
stocks
small savings
simple investments
Don’t panic if they make mistakes. Loss is part of learning.
Imagine:
Your child goes to school.
And...
A friend says:
“My mummy bought me the latest iPhone.”
And
Your child replies:
“That’s nice. I’m a shareholder in Apple.”
Another says:
“My daddy bought me expensive shoes.”
Your child says:
“I own shares in companies that make those shoes.”
That child is no longer thinking like a consumer. That child is thinking like an owner.
That is how generational wealth starts - quietly, at home.
Here's my Advice to all PARENTS...
Before you stress yourself chasing multiple incomes, ask yourself:
Have I taught my children how money works?
Do they understand needs vs wants?
Do they understand ownership?
Because if you raise financially literate children, even small income will build big wealth over time.

That “small advice” I gave that mother is the same principle I use to raise my own children.
