2027: INEC Voter Register Rises Above 103m as PVC Collection Begins Friday.
Abuja, October 6, 2026 — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that Nigeria’s National Register of Voters has risen to more than 103 million ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The development follows the conclusion of the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which recorded 10,772,421 new registrations, subject to the completion of the Commission’s biometric verification and cleaning processes.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, made the disclosure during a strategic engagement with media executives in Abuja, where he highlighted the Commission’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The Commission also announced that nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence on Friday, October 9, 2026, with newly produced cards being distributed to Local Government Area collection centres.
The three phases of the CVR exercise recorded 2,611,266 registrations in Phase One, 4,121,835 in Phase Two and 3,867,997 in Phase Three, bringing the total new registrations to 10,772,421.
INEC has urged registered voters to take advantage of the PVC collection exercise and ensure that their voter information is correctly captured. The Commission has also introduced Printable PVC technology, designed to reduce delays associated with the production and replacement of voter cards.
The rise in the voter register underscores the importance of citizens' participation in the electoral process. Political parties, civil society organisations, community leaders, religious organisations and the media are expected to play their roles in educating citizens about voter registration, PVC collection, electoral procedures and responsible participation.
INEC has also cautioned against vote-buying, violence, misinformation.
