"The plotters had tentatively picked a date for the coup and were continuing consultations when the coup plot leaked."

Last night armed bandits conducted coordinated attacks on four villages—Yallaya, Gadar Dan Zarrah, Kwandawa, and Jibo—in Kankia Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State, Nigeria. The raids resulted in multiple residents killed, injured, and abducted, forcing many to flee. A simultaneous assault hit the nearby Kukar Kwaida community in the same LGA, where attackers injured one person and kidnapped two others before retreating; this area was previously seen as relatively secure.

Residents and observers link the violence to recent peace accords, including a major deal signed on October 12 in Bakori LGA (adjacent to Kankia) between local communities, traditional leaders, and bandit groups from Katsina and Zamfara States. People argue these negotiations, such as under Operation Safe Corridor, may simply displace attacks to non-participating areas rather than resolving the root issues of banditry in northwest Nigeria.
