NNDA and BNPU:
The emergence of the newly registered association, Bassa-Nge Progressive Union (BNPU), is a step in the right direction.
Truthfully, some of us expected this development as far back as 2021–2022, especially after BNDU (Bassa-Nge Development Union) was changed to NNDA (Niniji Nupe Development Association).
Even before that change, BNDU was already weak in structure and purpose, and the confusion surrounding the 2021 reversal only worsened the situation.
One of the major concerns of Etsu Abu Ali Mopa III (of blessed memory) was that BNDU lacked financial strength and clear vision.
He was not impressed with the union’s achievements.
He openly questioned why a union meant to develop the Bassa-Nge nation did not have an official secretariat within the Bassa-Nge Kingdom, and why most of its meetings were held outside the kingdom.
From his position as Etsu, these concerns were valid.
Ideally, such a union should have its secretariat within the land, and should work closely with the Etsu.
That kind of cooperation would have ensured unity of purpose and clear direction for development.
Going forward, we should encourage healthy competition, not forced unity, between NNDA and BNPU. (If true cooperation had been possible, there would have been no need for a new union).
Therefore, both associations should be allowed to operate independently.
It is still too early to debate which association is superior.
The real focus should be development, not rivalry.
In due time, the Bassa-Nge people will decide which association truly represents the umbrella body of the nation.
Whoever becomes the next Etsu of Bassa-Nge should be accepted, respected, and supported by both associations, for the sake of peace and progress.
I commend everyone genuinely working for the land, people, culture, and traditions of the Bassa-Nge nation.
May the soul of our departed Etsu continue to rest in peace.
Aamin.
