TODAY'S REFLECTION
In today’s first reading we see how the people of Samaria, experience the joy of receiving the good news through the ministry of Philip. They rejoiced that they came to know the true saviour. James and John strengthen them in their faith by laying hands and obtaining for them the power of the Holy Spirit. In today’s gospel Jesus promises the same Holy Spirit, the counsellor, to be with them for ever. The Counsellor is the spirit of truth. The Holy Spirit is the promise of the Lord as he departs from this world after fulfilling his mission. So a Christian is never left abandoned by God, but always lives in the Holy Triune God. St Peter, in the second reading advises the people to be ready to answer their adversaries with a defence of gentleness and reverence. This is the consequence of receiving the Holy Spirit. Lord, fill me with your Spirit of courage and joy.
Acts 8:5-8.14-17 (first reading)
1 Peter 3:15-18 (second reading)
John 14:15-21 (today's gospel)
Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter. Happy Sunday!

TODAY'S REFLECTION
“By his wounds you have been healed,” says Saint Peter in today’s Second Reading. The shepherd becomes the door of the sheepfold. He risks his life in order to protect his sheep. The predator targets the shepherd who guards the sheep like a door. His life is in danger. He is attacked and killed. He dies to save the lives of the sheep. But a thief runs away when the predator attacks. The sheep get scattered and killed. In Jesus we have the good shepherd who “bore our sins in his body on the tree,” who was wounded and killed to save his sheep. We are that sheep saved by the death of Jesus, our good shepherd. Do we hear his voice and follow his path? Or do we hear the voice of the thief who “comes to kill and destroy?” Lord, help us hear your voice and follow you.
Happy Sunday to everyone 👐🏼

TODAY'S REFLECTION
The Eucharist is at the Centre of the life of the church. It is the sacrament of the body and Blood and Christ, and is one with the sacrifice of the cross. The disciples of Jesus were disappointed because of the stories of the resurrection. Jesus took them on a journey through the scriptures, explaining to them all that is written about himself. However, they recognized him in the breaking of bread. Jesus is still visibly present in the church and continues to reveal himself through the Eucharist. The readings prepare us for that encounter with the risen Lord in the Eucharist. Jesus continues to reveal himself and feed his people in his word and in the Eucharist.
*Acts 2:14.22-33 *first reading*
*1 Peter 1:17-21 *second reading*
*Luke 24: 13-35 *gospel reading*
Happy Sunday to you all!

TODAY'S REFLECTION
The verses that make up the Gospel text today may be seen to be divided into four parts, all of which are interconnected. The first of these is the appearance of the Risen Christ to his disciples and in the second his commission to them follows. The third is the appearance of the Risen Christ to the disciples when Thomas is present. The final part is the comments made by the evangelist. The overarching theme of the readings is that, as today’s second reading tells us, Jesus is the beginning and the end, the first and the last. He who was dead is alive forever and it is he who holds the keys of the kingdom. It is the same Lord who gave peter and the first disciples the power to heal and make whole; the same Lord who gave Peter and the disciples the power to reach out in love; the same Lord who gave Peter and the disciples the power to make him manifest in their every word and action so that others will be brought to believe. How will your belief in the living Lord show itself in action?

*First reading:*
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:42-47)

*Second reading:*
A reading from the first Letter of Saint Peter (1 Peter 1:3-9)

*Gospel reading:*
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (John 20: 19-31)

Happy Sunday (the eight day after resurrection)

TODAY’S REFLECTION
The best way to read the Bible and indeed the only way to read the Bible is to read ourselves into it, putting ourselves in the shoes of the characters within the Biblical stories thereby making the Bible become our examination of conscience. When we try to place ourselves in the characters of today’s Passion Narrative, we cannot but see how real the story becomes and how it contains so many lessons for us even today.

Our people say that it is the rat inside the house that goes to inform other rats outside that there is food in the house. The enemy outside cannot succeed without the permission or cooperation of the enemy inside. Again, in pidgin, there is the saying: “NA WHO KNOW MAN, NAI DEY KILL AM.” All these boils down to the person of Judas Iscariot. But wait, before you begin to judge him, why not ask: “Haven’t I betrayed my close friends in the past?” “Don’t I sit down to gossip about people very close to me using the secrets I know about them against them?”

Always remember that on the day of your birth, you brought nothing to this world and the day you die, you would take nothing with you. Let this thought never leave your heart. All your efforts to grab, accumulate and possess which sometimes lead you to fight others, keep malice, insult or keep enemies are useless because in the end, you will have to watch and see how every dime you have will go away. Judas sold Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. How much of that money did he spend?

Pilate knew Jesus was innocent “for he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.” Mark 15:10. But just like you and me, he was more afraid of the crowd than the truth. He acted against his conscience to please the crowd and to secure his job. If I was Pilate, what would I have done differently?

The Passion Narrative teaches us a lot about ourselves. The bitter truth is humanity has not changed at all since the time of Jesus. We are still ruled by money, we still betray one another, we are still stingy, we do not pray well, and we often act to please the crowd, in short we are often crowd people, we do things not because it is right but because everyone is doing it. Like I once noted, if Jesus were to come back again as man, we would still kill him again. Do not repeat history. Change today. Become a better person.

PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL FOR LENT
As man Jesus died, but as God He saved us. They thought they were going to destroy Him once and for all by killing Him, but His death opened the channel of life and freedom to all those who were held captive.

By dying, Jesus destroyed our death and by rising from the dead He restored our life. This is a joyful moment, this is a hopeful moment, this is a day of glory and praise and we must rejoice and be glad.

We must become children of the light and we must also rise with Jesus into a newness of life. We must place our total trust in Jesus Christ because death and the grave could not hold Him captive, therefore, with Him we can overcome all that comes our way.

Let us Pray,
Lord Jesus, free me from the love of money and the desire to please people. Increase my love and devotion to you especially during this holy week. Amen.
