I was just an ordinary civil servant before Covid, doing her job and waiting patiently for rain to fall at month end. ASUU went on strike shortly before this Covid and were not paid salaries for months!and it for me thinking......this could be ASUP as well.
I decided to start a "viable" business that won't interfere with my 9-5, and that was my dipaer business. I became a wholesaler and used my car for delivery. I had customers along my route to work, so it was a WIN-WIN......or so I thought.
I was a Hayat Kimya wholesaler, and all i needed to do was just send my order, make payments, and goods would be delivered to me without any stress. Molfix was the "rave of the moment" in Ede at this time, so that was the brand of diaper I was selling.
Business was moving, my customers grew and everything was fine........UNTIL the Kisskids craze ( pardon my language).
Demand became low as everyone was requesting for Kisskids diaper. The starting capital to be a wholesaler was not small money, so I couldn't just start stocking it at that time.
I got pregnant and couldn't move about as usual for marketing except on demand.
I had goods in the shop but no sales!
I was down and didn't know what to do.
I was left with goods that couldn't be sold because I failed to realize early enough the shift in market demand. I failed to accept that end users are the determinants of sales. I failed to re-strategize, and it cost me my MONEY, TIME, ENERGY.
This loss taught me the importance of not putting all my eggs in one basket. It taught me the essence of diversification in business, and that demand for a particular product depends largely on public opinion. It taught me that you "WIN SOME YOU LOSE SOME" and what matters is how you get back up!
Have you ever been in this situation before?
I don't mind learning from your experiences as well.
I would love to read them💜
