Kogi Govt Launches Joint Patrols to Protect Churches, Mosques and Schools
The Kogi State Government has unveiled a sweeping multi-agency security operation aimed at safeguarding churches, mosques, schools and other vulnerable locations across the state.
The move follows Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s directive prompted by recent attacks on worshippers and educational institutions in neighbouring states.
Announcing the measure after a strategic security review in Lokoja, the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Abdullahi Adamu, said the meeting brought together heads of major security agencies to reassess current threats and tighten protection around communities.
Speaking after the closed-door session, Lokoja Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, ACP Abubakar Umar, stated that security formations met with the council chairman to evaluate the security terrain and activate immediate preventive measures across Lokoja and adjoining areas.
He revealed that the new security plan will deploy five joint teams—comprising operatives of the Police, NSCDC, DSS and local vigilantes—to intensify patrols in remote settlements, especially around religious centres and schools, while also discouraging nighttime gatherings in vulnerable spots.
According to him, patrols and mapping of critical locations will begin without delay, followed by community awareness campaigns and full enforcement.
Umar appealed to residents, religious organisations and community leaders to cooperate with security agencies, noting that the operation aims to avert preventable attacks and sustain peace throughout Kogi State.
