Bianca Ojukwu's Shocking Confession

Each time I see the picture of my wedding cake, the rather funny but sad story of the wedding cake comes to mind.

I was told by a good friend, during my wedding preparations that there was a lady at Enugu that makes great wedding cakes. Infact my friend, though not familiar with the lady, offered to take me to hers.

Dressed rather casually, I decided to park my own Mercedes and I joined my friend in her own car which was a cute looking but modest Volkswagen (known as Beetle in those days) and she drove us to the cake maker’s place.

Upon our arrival, The popular cake maker, (whose name I withhold for obvious reasons) totally oblivious of my identity, took one derisive look at the car we arrived in, and was not impressed. I told her I needed her to make my wedding cake, and she started coming up with all manner of excuses.

First, she told me her cakes were very expensive and I definitely would not be able to afford it ( at 25,000 naira in those days), and offered to direct me to a cheaper cake place, stressing that she only makes cakes for important personalities ( even going ahead to drop names..such as one Union bank manager, one boutique owner, etc who in her estimation were ‘dignitaries’) but I told her that I could manage to afford it.

She then asked where the wedding was taking place and I told her it was at Abuja. She said I would have to pay for her transportation to Abuja to mount the cake and that since she only travels by air, not road, this added cost would be difficult for me to carry, to which I replied that I would pay.

She raised the issue of hotel accommodation, which I assured her, would be taken care of.
My friend kept nudging me and whispering in my ear, ‘ Tell this woman who you are so she can put a stop to these nonsense questions’, to which I replied no. I was secretly amused, albeit perplexed at that moment about human nature and social climbers, which by her attitude, this lady clearly was .

I cannot fight a side chick. If I discover my husband cheats on me, I will just leave the house. My dear, Wait till you get there

How can a married woman look so unkept. Once I marry, I will be looking so beautiful for my husband. My dear wait till you get there

How can a married woman deny her man s*x ? When I marry I will be having fun with my husband 24 hours. My dear wait till you get there

This woman doesn't know how to discipline her kids. Look at the kind of clothes her kids are putting on. So dirty. My dear wait till you get there

How can a married woman keep her family hungry? Why is she always cooking at night? My dear wait till you get there .

I am not insinuating yours will be worst but it's very risky to criticize a pain you haven't endured.

It's risky to criticize a journey you haven't embarked on because when life hits you, you could become everything you once criticized.

Last month after paying my staff their salaries, one of my staff spent almost everything he earn right there in my present buying foodstuffs for his family.

He pulled out a list and bought food items for his family, he spent almost everything and was barely spared with anything.

As I sat at the corner of my shop working, I could not help but remember the number of times the sacrifices men makes on a daily just to make sure they provide for their family.

A man will work so hard to earn a living not for himself, but to be able to provide and cater for his family.

A man will do all manner of jobs not for himself, but for the ones who depend on him for survival.

A man will make uncomfortable sacrifices and even take all
Manners of insult, just to be able to live up to his responsibilities.

This beautiful sight brought back a lot of memories of how my father never had enough for himself but made sure we had everything we need.

I have never been sent back home from school for fees, even when my father had to do menial jobs for a period of time when he first lost his job as a supervisor in a beverage company.

I have never gone to bed hungry not because we always had everything we needed but because there were number of times my father had to pretend he wasn’t hungry just so we can have something enough to eat from his share.

I have never had to beg for handouts, laptops, text books etc in school not because I came from a comfortable family, but because I had a father who will prioritize our education over his own needs.

I remember the number of times he had to follow us to school with food flask during break just because we didn’t have anything to carry along with us in the morning when he left and he was too broke to give us at that time.

Today I want to celebrate the men in our lives. The ones who make uncomfortable sacrifices just to put a smile on our faces.

Today I choose to celebrate the men who made sure we never go to bed hungry even if they had

The Fisherman and the Orphan

Once upon a time, in a small riverside village, there lived a kind fisherman named Juma. Juma was not wealthy, but he worked hard every day, casting his net into the river to provide for his family.

One evening, as the sun dipped low over the water, Juma returned from fishing with a small but satisfying catch. On his way home, he saw a young boy sitting by the riverbank, his clothes torn and his eyes hollow with hunger. The boy was an orphan, left to fend for himself in a world that had shown him little kindness.

Moved by the boy’s plight, Juma approached him. “Have you eaten today?” he asked gently.

The boy shook his head, too weak to speak. Without a second thought, Juma reached into his basket and handed the boy his largest fish. “Here, take this,” he said. “You need it more than I do.”

The boy’s face lit up with gratitude as he accepted the fish. “Thank you,” he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.

Word of Juma’s generosity spread through the village, and soon, others came forward to help the boy. They gave him food, clothing, and a place to stay. Inspired by Juma’s example, the villagers learned the power of sharing and coming together to help those in need.

From that day on, the boy grew strong and happy, and he never forgot the kindness of the fisherman who had changed his life with one simple act of compassion.

This story is a touching reminder of how even small acts of kindness can create ripples of change in a community.

I met this guy sometime in 2016. He was selling shoes at Makola and I was a pupil teacher in a school. He was a good man and even though he wasn't rich, he was very generous with the little he had. This motivated me and I decided to contribute to his life because of his good character. I wanted to go to the training college and was saving up for it. Same time, he also wanted to continue his studies. He was very intelligent so I decided to give him my savings to add up to his so he could go to school because after all he's a man and if he had a fruitful life, it affected me too.
So by 2018, he started business administration in Legon. He had a boy who looked at the shop when he went to school and because his wares were cheap, he was able to also establish himself on campus. He had a single room at Dansoman which had only a bed and TV when we met. I bought a fridge so l could cook in bulk and store it for him. I also got a microwave for him and was constantly at his place. By the time he was in 3rd year, we decided to live together so I took a loan at my workplace and added up then we rented a chamber and hall and moved in. We loved each other. I was grateful I was building a life with someone and even though my mum didn't approve of most of the things I was doing for him, she eventually had to accept it. My mum sold foodstuff in Accra. It was on one of my visits to her place I met him. Anytime my mum's goods came, she'd call me and give me a good quantity of food for him and myself. We literally lived like a couple. I took seed once and we both agreed we weren't available both emotionally and financially for a child so I terminated it. By God's grace, I got employed at another good school that had better pay I also taught some pupils for extra classes so l was earning more than my previous school. I then also started saving all over again to continue my schooling. Then my man finally graduated and in his department, he was one of the 4 students who had a first class.

She was my friend's younger sister, their last born. A graduate, had a good job in Victoria island Lagos while living with my friend, her brother.

While working and earning a good pay at a tech company, her brothers and parents were still sending her money. Her salary was saved almost 💯%.

She met a man who lived in another state at the redeem camp. They dated and wanted to marry. The few occasions I saw the man, I wasn't very comfortable with him and I didn't hesitate to tell her since I also saw her as a younger sister.

They eventually got married. But when the man told her to quit her job in Lagos and join him in one dry state meant only for civil servants who are indigenes, I vehemently kicked against it.

I tried talking to her brother about it but he couldn't do anything about it and I didn't want to cry more than the bereaved. So I let go. She eventually left Lagos. That was the last I heard about her.

Few years later, her brother started complaining bitterly about the marriage. Each time I asked after her, his countenance would change.

Fast forward to few weeks ago, she personally contacted me, telling me stories that will break your heart if I narrate everything here.

But as usual, I'm bringing it here for lessons purposes ONLY.

In summary:

-- she abandoned a well paying job to go and be with a junior, unambitious civil servant in a semi urban area, who, at his young age was hoping to work for 35 years, retire and receive gratuity and be receiving pension till death.

-- When she got to that state, she didn't like the accomodation, so she gave him money for a bigger and better accomodation. Furnished it too. She bought a car for the family use. Which he initially didn't see any need for a car since he was already used to using the public buses or tricycle or bike.

-- Ofcourse no jobs. She wanted to do a business but he kicked against it, telling her to finish having children before doing anything.

-- first child came, second one came, whe

We broke up five years ago when I was pregnant. He wanted me to let it go. I didn't know what to do at that time, whether to keep it or let it go. All I asked for was a little bit of time to think about the issue. He kept putting pressure on me every day until out of anger I told him, "I'm having it. Just leave me alone."

He took it literally and left me alone until the child was born. He came to claim him and did what tradition required him as a father of the child. After that, he sent money when he wanted to and sent an amount he wanted to send. I didn't complain but along the line, the money stopped coming. I didn't complain too.

Our child is four years old as I write this. I moved on and started a new relationship that's going somewhere only for my ex to appear again to sow a seed of discord in my relationship.

I don't know when he interviewed for a job where I work but one morning, he was introduced to us as our new colleague. I hadn't seen him in two years. I thought it was a bad dream I would wake up from but it wasn't. He's in a different department but in the same office. I detest seeing his face but he has told everyone I'm his baby mama. That aside, he's talking about coming back into my life "For the sake of our child."

I couldn't keep it to myself so as a good girlfriend, I discussed it with my boyfriend: That my ex is working with me and he's pushing to come back. We talked about it extensively and I assured him that nothing would make me go back to that guy.

My ex has started giving me money for the child. I didn't hide it. I told my man about it. This is me being transparent. Not knowing I'm rather digging a grave for the relationship. My boyfriend told me, "You're enjoying his presence that's why you keep entertaining him. If not, why don't you resign and look for a new job?"

I thought he had a point so I've started looking for a new job but you know a new job doesn't come easily. He wants me to leave and search. I'm searching so I leave
