🇮🇳 This Independence Day, let's unveil the real water story behind the scenes. While shower water wastage often grabs attention, the truth is, the water that silently flows away on our plates tells a much bigger tale. 💧

Picture this: A shower uses around 75 liters of water, but the hidden water costs of our food are even more astounding: 17,000 liters for 1 kg of chocolate, 15,000 liters for 1 kg of beef, 10,000 liters for 1 kg of mutton, 4,400 liters for 1 kg of chicken, 2,500 liters for 1 kg of rice, and 215 liters for 1 kg of tomatoes. Astonishingly, about 70% of our freshwater resources are dedicated to our food supply.

This Independence Day, let's break through the marketing myths. Let's shift our focus from the shower to the plate and truly celebrate freedom by making thoughtful choices that nurture both our nation and our environment.

We are now consulting.

Below is a plot in Dhanu where we are helping the owners to make a sustainable food forest and a kitchen garden for their personal consumption.
This plot will support diversity of different variety of trees and crops.
The main aim here is to mimic the way a forest is.
Just as we see in a forest there are trees of different size, like big canopies trees, small canopies trees, small trees, shrubs, creepers, herbs, fungi, water body with aqua plants etc.
Hence we see different varieties of birds, insects, animals and a rich biodiversity in a forest, Which supports life to the best in every form.
The aim here is to replicate a forest in a smaller form by taking care with most possible of above requirements which will make this place resistant and resilient to protect itself to give the best possible output that nature provides.
The next picture of this place would be greener with more life.

It's harvest season - the time when our farmers work the hardest. Most harvests are followed by festivals like Navratri, which is just around the corner, and lead all the way up to Diwali. Here to celebrating our traditional agriculture and the community who help sustain it!

Every week, we'll share some of the most rare, indigenous and nutritious rice grown by our farmers.

If you guessed it correctly from our previous posts, this is Sahyadri Black Rice(काळ भात). This rice is rich in minerals like potassium, magnesium and copper and more importantly iron.

The average content of iron in most indigenous rice is usually 5 mg/100 g, and that of a non indigenous rice is less than 2 mg/100 g. With Sahyadri black rice, it’s at a whopping 12 mg/100 g.

Earthism tip: We recommend cooking this rice for lighter meals like khichdis. This rice is great for small children too.
