Offering a wide variety of products, including groceries, fresh vegetables, meat, bread, cakes, & confectionery. Here are the opening hours for Talaton Community Shop:
Monday: 9 AM - 1:30 PM
Tuesday: 9 AM - 6 PM
Wednesday: 9 AM - 6 PM (Post Office: 2 PM - 4 PM)
Thursday: 9 AM - 6 PM
Friday: 9 AM - 6 PM
Saturday: 9 AM - 1 PM

It's Apple Day, and in Devon we take apples seriously.

Ways to join in from our shelves. Local apples on the stand, Ciders, apple sauce, and apple juices.

If you're doing Sober October, our apple juices your friend. If you're not, the cider's right next to it.

The Post Office desk is open 2–4pm today too.

Settle it in the comments: what's the best apple? Crunchy eater, or a Bramley baked into a crumble?

🦥International Sloth Day

It's International Sloth Day, and we're right behind it. Sloths never rush, and neither should your shopping.

There's no car park to circle here, and no self-checkout shouting about an unexpected item in the bagging area. You stroll in, have a chat at the counter, and stroll out with tea sorted.

Half term's not far off. If you're stocking the cupboards before the kids are home all week, we've got the basics covered, and you won't need to queue at the big supermarket to get them!

A Saturday thank you to the volunteers behind the counter this week, and every week. This shop doesn't open without you.❤️

If you've ever thought about giving a few hours, there are shifts at the till and jobs behind the scenes that don't involve customers at all. Have a word with Trish, or just ask whoever's serving.

Shop's open till 1pm today. Come and say hello.

It's World Food Day 🌍, and the theme for a village shop is an easy one: buy what you need, and waste less of it.

Shopping little and often from us means fewer forgotten bags of salad at the back of the fridge. And when we've got sandwiches or fresh items reduced at the end of the day, that's not a clearance sale. It's good food going to a good home instead of the bin.

Sourdough's in from Sidwell Street today too.

🍫Chocolate Week starts today. We're not going to pretend you need an excuse.

The confectionery shelf is stocked and if you're thinking ahead to birthdays or a thank-you present, our card and gift section is worth a look. We've still got Devon Fudge Company clotted cream fudge boxes at £8.50, with Talaton on the packaging.

Post Office desk is open this afternoon, 2–4pm, if you've got parcels to send.

🩷October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Around 1 in 7 women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and men can get it too.

The advice is simple: know what's normal for you, check regularly, and see your GP if anything changes. Lumps, skin changes, ni**le changes, a new pain that doesn't go away. Most changes aren't cancer, but it's always worth checking.

Five minutes this week. Then tell a friend to do the same.

Fix It for a Fiver still stands: £5 a month from every household keeps this shop open. That's a box of eggs and a loaf. Think of us before you head into town this week.

Nobody needs to have the right words. A chat at the counter, asking someone how they're really doing, noticing when a regular hasn't been in for a while: that's most of it.

If you're having a hard time, Samaritans are there any time, day or night, on 116 123. Free to call.

Come in for a loaf and a chat.

It's World Egg Day, and that's egg-citing 🥚

Our eggs come from The Brown Egg Farmer, so they've travelled a short way to get to you rather than across the country.

Scrambled, poached, in a cake, or boiled with soldiers for the kids. Pick up a box this weekend.

And a reminder: Sidwell Street Bakehouse sourdough lands today, so some loaves may be left for general sale. Toast and eggs, sorted.
