Doti Sutra

Doti Sutra We started Doti Sutra on the idea of sharing soulful treasures from our travels. What is Doti Sutra? Doti Sutra, we interpret as a way of the dot. with Love

Hundreds of years ago, treasures from faraway lands captivated citizens. Foreign goods were few and far between, brought to local markets by world travelers. They weren’t your everyday foods, clothing, and decor that you could find just anywhere, and therefore were perceived as unique, valuable, and even magical. They reflect the lands they came from, helping to share and spread culture around the

world. Today, of course, foreign trade has taken over and we can now find goods made in other countries just about anywhere. But Doti Sutra knows it’s just not the same, which is why we’ve gone back to our roots of unique shopping experiences with artisan-made goods. We have an eye for the beautiful and distinctive, which is why we hand-select all of our items from faraway places like Turkey, India, Nepal, and Indonesia — places that still value art and craftsmanship and the little differences that make a product truly one of a kind. All of our products are made by hand from artisans who have spent their lives perfecting their crafts. That’s why there’s usually only one or two of each item in our shop — because mass production doesn’t have a place here. We select products directly from artists and local shops and have personal connections with each artist. We have met many interesting and talented people on our world travels and strive to share their craft with our customers. From original shawls and jewellry to natural incense and calabash, we make it easy to find gifts that mean something a little extra. Shop our online store, or catch us at one of our in-person events, markets, or festivals. We look forward to sharing a unique side of the world with you! Melis & Gilles

Now here’s a very brief Tree of Life text I co-wrote with AI. ☺️

From ancient Mesopotamia to Persia, India, the Abrahamic traditions, and the Indigenous cultures of the Americas, the Tree of Life appears as the axis that holds the universe together.

• Mesopotamia – the sacred world-tree linking the underworld, earth, and heaven.

• Zoroastrianism – the Gaokerena Tree that sustains all creation and cannot be destroyed.

• Hindu cosmology – the upside-down Ashvattha Tree, rooted in the invisible world, branching into the visible one.

• Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) – the Tree of Life in Eden, symbol of divine wisdom, eternal life, and the origin of humanity.

• South American Indigenous cultures (Maya, Amazonian tribes) – the Ceiba or World Tree, whose trunk connects all layers of existence: sky, earth, and the underworld.

Across civilizations, the message repeats itself:
The universe is imagined as a living tree — rooted in the unseen, branching into all forms of life.

The Tree of Life holds infinite stories.
A symbol carried from our oldest ancestors to us today.

Good weekend 💚
