I finally have my own Christmas tree!!! 🎉🎄 I’m keeping it minimal with ornaments we carefully choose, and we look forward to filling up the tree in years to come. 💫
It’s a special day today. I’m making the old school butter cake that my grandpa used to love so much. I grew up with my grandparents until I was 7 years old. My parents sent me back to their place to stay for most of my year end school holiday (it’s like the summer school break here). It was in a much rural area, and that made me become hesitant in going back when I was in high school, because I wanted to spend time with my friends instead. Funny thing is that when I grew older, I initiated in going back to spend time with them when my parents wanted me stay. And each and every time, I would bring them my butter cake.
My grandparents were one of the main considerations before I moved over to Canada. While I was waiting for my PR when I just got here, I wasn’t allowed to simply leave Canada until my PR got approved. But my grandparents had to visit the hospital frequently and I truly missed home so much in the first year. Long story short, my grandpa passed away the same year I moved here, and I couldn’t be there with him. It was the first time I felt that my heart shattered into million pieces.
Dear grandpa, I miss you dearly everyday! Thank you for your unconditional love. I still remember your scent vividly, I still can feel your thick, warm palms. I still remember your smile, your cough, and all the little things about you. Although I’m thousands miles from home, I can feel that you’re still around. You’ve been a really big part of my life, and you’ll always be with me wherever I go. I love you!
