The May long weekend is finally here 😎!

This weekend is a great time to get your garden ready for planting. The farmers ' market is your one stop shop to pick up your seedlings/plant starts as well as seeds. If you are not sure what variety you are looking for or you need planting instructions (especially for these upcoming cooler nights) don't forget to ask our very knowledgeable farmers.

In addition we will also have a great selection of fresh local farm, food and drink. This week we welcome back Seaview Game Farm with their delicious venison and beef perfect for a barbecue. Also returning after a long hiatus is Abuelo's Corn Tortillas

A perfect day to be heading down to the CV Exhibition Grounds between 9-1.

We are all set up and ready to go with loads of great local products including something for Mom or your favorite mother figure.

It is also wildfire community preparedness day at the market. The fire trucks, smoke house, various information booths and a scavenger hunt.

It looks like Saturday is shaping up to be another great day!

In fact a perfect day to get into the garden. Before you get your gardening gloves on make sure you stop by the farmers' market and pick up some seeds and plant starts. Not sure what to plant or when to plant ask our farmers. They have loads of knowledge as well as some tips and tricks to help you grow the best produce.

If you are looking for something special for your mom or a mother figure we have you covered as well. There will be loads of local products perfect for Mom.

Oh and don't forget it is wildfire community preparedness day at the market. You will find loads of information, scavenger hunts, fire trucks and workshops.

Swing on by the CV Exhibition Grounds today (Saturday) between 9-1 and pick up some local goodness.

In addition to all the amazing food there are loads of plant starts, seeds, fertilizer and mason bees. The perfect como for working in the garden this weekend.

We are super excited about this week's market (Saturday 9-1)!

We are welcoming back to the market Tendergreens Farm (amazing fruit and veggies as well as plant starts), Linda's Creations (jams and jellies), and Evergreens (hanging basket).

This will also be the last week for Green Mountain Pollinators (mason bees).

Did you know that on Earth Day (April 22) Netflix released a 6 episode gardening documentary series called "This is a Gardening Show" that takes a humorous look into the world of farming/gardening and the food we eat?

This series not only stars well known Hollywood actor Zach Galifianakis but also some Comox Valley farming rock stars including Arzeena Hamir from Amara Farm, Royann and Sylvain from Stellar Raven Ecological Farm, the cutest farm dog from Pendleton Farm and Joyce from Speedibin composter. There were also several kiddos from Brooklyn Elementary as well as other farmers and foragers from Vancouver Island.

What a great way to showcase the Comox Valley and its amazing food scene and to emphasize to the world the importance of local food, farmers, agriculture and sustainability.

Happy Earth Day 🌍!

Today (and every day) we need to be taking steps to ensure that we are caring for our home, communities, country and the planet so that it is a better place for everyone now and into the future.

Small actions can have big impacts. Here are some ways you can help:

🍅 Shop local -local food helps reduce your carbon footprint while supporting the people growing fresh, sustainable produce in your community.

♻️ Bring your reusables- bring your own bags and containers or return clean reusable container to vendors. Recycle packaging where possible.

🚲 Get there the green way- walk, bike, take transit, or carpool to lower emissions and enjoy the journey. There is now a regular bus that makes multiple stops during the market.

🌱 Grow your own food- whether you have a sprawling backyard or a small apartment balcony, there are many ways to grow food.

🔗 Share- Spread the love by sharing or trading your knowledge, resources, tools, extra garden produce etc.

👣 Remember it is not all or nothing. Do what you can where you are at and build from there.
