Located in the historic Woodville fire station, the Woodville Eldon Food Bank can be easily spotted by its colourful mural of an old fire engine right outside its doors. Inside, clients and visitors meet an equally vibrant community of volunteers ready to help their community.

The food bank serves approximately 40 families each month, providing a pre-packaged, non-perishable food hamper based on family size, with additional perishable items and hygiene products as needed.

The Woodville Eldon Food Bank was initially launched when a community member saw an issue with food insecurity locally and began operating the food bank out of her basement before moving to its current location, explains Board Chair, Shannon. The food bank has received massive support from the local community. “If you have, you give; if you need, you come,” says Shannon.

The Woodville Eldon Food Bank places an emphasis on reducing the stigma surrounding food insecurity, says Board Secretary, Maggie. “If getting food would help you manage your life and meet your other needs, we are here to help,” she explains.

The Woodville Eldon Foodbank operates 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is located at 100A Kind St, Woodville ON. For donation deliveries, or emergency needs, call (705) 879-3563.

We now present the eating of the Stinky Fish from the 2021 KLFS Stinky Fish Challenge! Warning, beware of watching to the end if you throw up easily...🤢

With all Challengers' final amounts tallied, the event has raised a whopping $5,175! WOW! 🎉

Thank you Patrick (Team Brad Bird - Kawarthas Real Estate Team + MinCom Plus Realty Inc.), for fundraising as well as being an amazing sport about following through with the punishment for losing the Challenge.

Thank you to Leanna and Luis (Fresh FueLL) and our Challenge winner Darryl (@Close Kicks + The Strumbellas), for agreeing to be a part of this whacky event, but also for raising so much money, all of which we can use to better serve our community.

To everyone who donated through this tough time, we appreciate the support so incredibly much ❤️ Thank you for being a part of the fun, and we look forward to the next KLFS Stinky Fish Challenge in the future!

The countdown is on…⌚️

We are now entering the final day of our KLFS Stinky Fish Challenge, with fundraising only open until tomorrow at noon. Will we see a last minute change in the leaderboard? Only time will tell….

If you haven’t yet, go to www.kawarthalakesfoodsource.com/news/klfs-making-a-stink-over-local-food-insecurity. It’s your last chance to support your favourite community leader before we find out who has to eat the dreaded Stinky Fish!

KLFS Stinky Fish Challenge - Darryl James - CanadaHelps

We are only 4 days away from determing the unlucky fundraiser who has to eat the dreaded Stinky Fish, and our last Stinky Fish Challenger spotlight is on local musical talent, Darryl James!

Darryl is a solo artist (Close Kicks), songwriter and member of the Juno Award-winning group, The Strumbellas. He's contributed to smash hits like: Spirits, Greatest Enemy and Salvation, which has over 500 million streams!

Darryl was so ready to help when approached about the Challenge, immediately saying yes and doing his research on what exactly he may end up having to eat. Did you know that Surstromming is traditionally eaten with boiled potatoes and onions on flatbread? Well, Darryl now knows and he seems kinda intrigued....🐟🤔

Patrick Lynch is the newest member of @teambradbird at @mincomplus. A former Cintas Lindsay alum of 11 years, Patrick has long been a supporter of KLFS, having run food drives that have brought in hundreds of pounds of donated food!

When asked to be a part of the Challenge, Patrick jumped onboard with a ton of enthusiasm for helping those who need a helping hand through these tough times.

Community gardens have taken root in several locations throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes in the last few years. The first CKL Community Garden was established in 2003 in support of the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. Local residents and businesses supported the effort with donations of time, expertise and funds to make the community garden.

Today, the two open access gardens operated by KLFS help community members harvest what they need. Our goal of these gardens is to increase the availability of fresh and healthy food for those who are in need. Katie, our Open Gardens Co-ordinator, is pleased with this year’s crop of healthy produce. #KLFS20years
