Encouraging discussion with Minister of Fisheries and Deputy Minister Annette Gibbons on the loss of fishing access and the uncertainty facing fishermen. The Minister shared her concern about the lack of young people getting into fishing, we made clear that it’s DFO’s current direction, and the constant threat of access loss through MPAs, that’s discouraging new entrants and investment. Both the Minister and Deputy emphasized that under their leadership, it’s not their intention to see fishing opportunities reduced, and that changes will be made within DFO to ensure sustainable fishing can continue. Thank you to for organizing this important meeting.

Week 2 of the ikijime program with .co
Fraser & Dillon spent the last couple days out off the west coast of Vancouver island targeting rockfish, lingcod and sablefish. They just got in with some beautiful ikijime product. Boxed up and heading out to locations across Canada today. Thanks for supporting this project . The plan is to get out weekly for the next 6 weeks or so. This is the window when the season is still open for these species and the boat is available. Usually the Racer X is just a prawn vessel. By exploring if this day boat fishery can work , we’re able to utilize a boat that would otherwise be sitting at the wharf. There are higher costs fishing this way. Small loads, handled with care , short duration trips come with higher costs as not as much fish to spread across the expenses. We hope that chefs can appreciate the fresh ikijime local species and support this fishery so it can be a yearly seasonal thing going forward. We are all learning a lot as we go and appreciate any feedback you have. Over time we’ll have the packaging dialled and learn where to target certain species. Festive greetings y’all !! Lots to celebrate in 2023. We took a trip down to NZ and caught up with the crew down there. Meaghan joined us earlier in the year and got to work learning the fish world and meeting many of you in Toronto. We purchased a delivery van for Vancouver, which you will see Quang or Will regularly delivering 🐟. We managed to catch some prawns back in spring, and freshen up our brand (new website soon).

2024 looking like it’ll be coming in plentiful with bountiful fish stocks thx to quota management systems, good fishing conditions for the North island. Looking at the farms, the post Covid supply issues seem to be past us and supply expectations are good.

Excited for the new additions brewing in the oven for 2024 also !
