🌱 LITTLE STEPS, BIG CONFIDENCE!

Toddlers love to feel like they can do things all by themselves! 💛 Giving them small, age-appropriate responsibilities can help build confidence, independence and important everyday skills.

Try these simple ideas:

👕 Let them choose between two outfits
🥄 Encourage self-feeding — mess and all!
🧸 Make clean-up part of playtime
🧺 Give them tiny jobs like putting clothes in the hamper
👟 Let them practise putting on shoes or a jacket
🥤 Create reachable spaces for their cups, books and toys
⏳ Give them a little extra time to try before stepping in to help

Remember: independence doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. It’s about giving little ones safe opportunities to try, learn and feel proud of themselves. 🌟

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL COUNTDOWN: 2 WEEKS TO GO! 🍎

Summer isn’t over just yet - but now is a great time to start making the transition back to school a little easier!

Here are a few things parents & caregivers can start doing now:

🌙 Slowly move bedtime and wake-up time back to the school schedule
🥪 Practice opening lunch containers and water bottles independently
👟 Check that shoes, clothes and jackets still fit after those summer growth spurts!
🏷️ Label backpacks, lunch bags, bottles, containers and sweaters
📚 Bring back 10–20 minutes of daily reading
✏️ Do a light refresh of reading, writing and math skills
🎒 Practice getting dressed, packed and ready in the morning
💬 Talk about what they’re excited (or nervous!) about this school year
🚶🏽‍♀️🚲 Practice the school route — whether you’ll be walking, biking or driving, do a practice run together. Talk about safe crossings, where to stop, where bikes will be parked and where drop-off and pick-up will happen.
📵 Start winding down screens earlier in the evening

And most importantly… keep enjoying the last days of summer! ☀️

You don’t have to change everything overnight. A few small changes over the next two weeks can make that first week back feel a whole lot smoother for everyone.

🍪 Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies — A GoGoTots Family Favourite!

Looking for a simple baking activity to do with the little ones? These chocolate chip cookies were a BIG hit in our house! ❤️

They’re chewy and soft in the middle, lightly crisp around the edges, and not overly sweet. Perfect with a glass of milk and even better when little hands help make them. 🥛🍪

Makes 12 cookies

🧈 ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
🤎 ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
🤍 2 tbsp granulated sugar
🥚 1 large egg
🌼 1 tsp vanilla extract
🌾 1½ cups all-purpose flour
🥄 ½ tsp baking soda
🧂 ½ tsp salt
🍫 ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

How to make them:

Mix the melted butter with both sugars. Whisk in the egg and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Gently mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, then fold in the chocolate chips.

❄️ Chill the dough for 30 minutes — don’t skip this part!

Roll into 12 balls and bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are golden but the centres still look a little soft.

Let them sit on the baking sheet for another 10 minutes…and enjoy! 🍪✨

GoGoTots Tip: Let the kids measure, pour and mix the ingredients. Baking together is a fun way to practise counting, measuring and following instructions — with a delicious reward at the end! ❤️

🧺 Sensitive Skin Laundry Tips for Kids 🌿

If your little one has sensitive skin, laundry day can be tricky. You want their clothes clean, soft and fresh-smelling — but some fragrances, dyes and fabric softeners can be irritating to delicate skin.

Here are a few gentle laundry tips to try:

👕 Choose a fragrance-free detergent
Look for a detergent made without dyes and heavy fragrances, especially for clothing that sits directly against your child’s skin.

🐑 Try wool dryer balls instead of fabric softener
Wool dryer balls help separate clothes as they tumble, improving airflow and naturally softening laundry, without coating clothes in traditional fabric softener. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the wool dryer balls before placing in dryer if your child can tolerate it.

⚡ Reduce static naturally
Avoid over-drying! Clothes that stay in the dryer too long can develop more static. Wool dryer balls can also help by keeping items separated while they dry.

🌿 Want a little freshness?
Instead of adding fragrance directly to your child’s clothing, keep their drawers and closets smelling fresh with a scented sachet placed nearby, but not directly against their clothes.

☀️ Bonus tip:
Whenever possible, give clothes some fresh air! Air-drying or hanging laundry outside for a little while can leave it smelling naturally fresh.

For sensitive little ones, sometimes simpler really is better. 💛
