The Aveley Primary School Vegetable Garden is an ongoing project to encourage hands on learning experiences for the students, staff and parents of the school. Having Bunnings Ellenbrook partnering with the school and supplying many of the required items, the project got underway at the beginning of 2014. Bunnings supplied the timber and people power to make the raised beds, the soil to fill them and the first lot of seeds and seedlings to get the gardens looking green. They also supplied a 2500ltr water tank which has been filled with rain water from the nearby roof and will be used by the students to hand water the gardens. In the long list of items provided by Bunnings is all of the timber used to fence off the raised beds. A massive thank you to Tony, Tegan and all of the wonderful crew at Bunnings Ellenbrook for providing materials, time and your wealth of knowledge. Aveley Primary School very much appreciates everything you have done for us! Combining the Vegetable gardens with composting, worm farming and the use of rain water and low volume drip irrigation, we intend to create a sustainable waste wise garden that will benefit the school community in many ways. Giving the students responsibility for sections of the garden and having them involved from planting through to harvesting and all that goes between, they are gaining an understanding of not only the processes but also the many benefits from growing your own produce.

We are not just growing potatoes and eating them.
We are not just experiencing garden to plate production.
We are not just learning about plant lifecycles and growth.
We are not just participating in team work and workplace safety.
We are not just doing physical activity and enjoying the outdoors.

We are not just learning life skills.
We are making memories 🥔🤎🥔

🤎🥔Potatoes Rush 🥔🤎

Best day ever in the garden, digging for potatoes.

1st explorations uncovered 30kg, a record for Happy Kids Club 🏆

The ‘potato project’ consumes our year.
Term 1 - we prepare the garden beds
Term 2 -we plant and we nurture
Term 3 - is busy. More nurturing. We harvest. We cook and we eat chippies.
Term 4 - we prepare the garden beds for new crops and we talk about that time we made chips at school. 🍟

Always grateful to WA Potatoes for their kind donation of seed potatoes. ‘Seeds for School’ is a fabulous initiative giving students the opportunity to grow food and experience ‘garden to plate’ produce.
