The Aveley Primary School Vegetable Garden is an ongoing project to encourage hands on learning experiences for the students, staff and parents of the school. Having Bunnings Ellenbrook partnering with the school and supplying many of the required items, the project got underway at the beginning of 2014. Bunnings supplied the timber and people power to make the raised beds, the soil to fill them a

nd the first lot of seeds and seedlings to get the gardens looking green. They also supplied a 2500ltr water tank which has been filled with rain water from the nearby roof and will be used by the students to hand water the gardens. In the long list of items provided by Bunnings is all of the timber used to fence off the raised beds. A massive thank you to Tony, Tegan and all of the wonderful crew at Bunnings Ellenbrook for providing materials, time and your wealth of knowledge. Aveley Primary School very much appreciates everything you have done for us! Combining the Vegetable gardens with composting, worm farming and the use of rain water and low volume drip irrigation, we intend to create a sustainable waste wise garden that will benefit the school community in many ways. Giving the students responsibility for sections of the garden and having them involved from planting through to harvesting and all that goes between, they are gaining an understanding of not only the processes but also the many benefits from growing your own produce.

The sunflowers were originally sown last year by our kindy cohort and flowered all summer holidays 🌻🌻🌻
