We have teamed up with our whānau from Whaiora to help our people enrol, update their details, and better understand the voting process back home in Aotearoa.🔥
NOW MORE than EVER, our participation matters.😳
Many Māori have been closely watching recent discussions and policy proposals that impact
TE TIRITI O WAITANGI and the rights, protections, and obligations that have shaped the relationship between Māori and the Crown.
Regardless of where we stand politically, it is important that Māori voices are heard and represented through the democratic process.✅
Our tūpuna fought hard to ensure future generations would have a voice.
We now have a responsibility to use that voice and ensure our tamariki, mokopuna, and generations yet to come inherit a future where Māori perspectives continue to be represented and respected.
✅ To be ELIGIBLE to enrol from Perth, you need to:
🛑 Be 18 years or older
🛑 Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
🛑 Have lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months or more at some point in your life
🛑 Be enrolled to vote (or eligible to enrol)
🛑 Be of Māori descent if choosing the Māori Roll
🛑 Visited NZ within the last 3 years
Over the coming months, our team will be working to help as many whānau as possible by:
🔹 Assisting with enrolment and updating voting details
🔹 Sharing information and educational resources about the voting process
🔹 Providing videos and information around strategic voting and civic participation
🔹 Supporting whānau who may need help navigating the voting process when ELECTION TIME ARRIVES
This kaupapa is bigger than any one person or organisation.
We would also like to extend a gentle challenge to our influencers, community leaders, sports clubs, churches, Māori organisations, and fellow Kiwi-owned businesses throughout Perth:
Could you create a space within your establishment where our people already gather?
Could you help reach your community and encourage enrolment?
Could you identify volunteers who can spare a few hours each week to help our whānau complete their enrolments online?
If many of us do a little, together we can achieve a lot.
