Why we’re doing this
Too many small farmers get heartbreakingly low prices for their hard work. Sending produce to wholesale markets is a risky gamble — some days it’s viable, other days the pricing isn’t worth the effort.

Europe has long shown fairer pricing models, but in Australia, protections are limited. The Food and Grocery Code of Conduct 2025 is designed to stop retailers from underpaying farmers, but it only applies to industries with annual sales over $5 billion.
This leaves most small farmers unprotected. On top of that, joining accreditation programs like FreshCare often costs more than any extra revenue they could earn, making participation financially unviable.

We’re done accepting the status quo. The Support Local Shop connects Perth buyers directly with small producers, reducing the middlemen and role‑modeling what we believe legislation and pricing should look like for all. Farmers set the prices they need to make their operations sustainable. We add a transparent markup to cover transport, credit card fees, and pickup point contributions — we either follow the producer’s RRP or typically add 15% after expenses for unpriced items.

Transparency - Fewer middlemen - Fair pay for farmers - Fair prices for buyers - Tiny team - big values.

Including our neighbours’ beautiful produce has been a real trial run, but it’s already showing so much promise. This is genuinely a game-changer for small-scale farmers like us—living on quiet roads where a roadside stall just isn’t viable. It also means we can bring you special vegetables you won’t easily find in the shops, like those delightful gem squash.

You’re getting fantastic value, along with produce grown with real love and care—no harsh chemicals, just good farming.

We’ve got some tweaks to make the whole experience even smoother, starting with improving our website interface to make ordering easier for everyone.
