🍋 SATURDAY CITRIS: Pickled Lime & Preserved Lemon
DATE: Saturday 30 May 2026
TIME: 2:00 – 4:30pm
With the current seasonal abundance in full swing , join us for a hands-on community workshop exploring the art of citrus preservation. Together we’ll make Lime Pickle and Preserved Lemon while learning practical, accessible techniques for preserving.
This workshop offers a welcoming introduction to preserving produce in sealed glass jars. Participants will learn safe preserving practices and how to achieve reliable seals for successful long-term storage.
The acidity of the citrus and the salt used are great natural preservatives that readily help prevent unwanted microbes from spoiling your food.
Local facilitator Peter Howard will lead the session in partnership with the co-op. Drawing on several years of home preserving experience, Peter has developed simple and reliable methods for transforming surplus citrus into flavourful pantry staples that can be enjoyed throughout the year or shared with friends and family.
Lime Pickle brings a bright, spicy depth to soups, stews, and Indian-inspired dishes, while Preserved Lemon — widely used in Middle Eastern cooking — offers a rich citrus flavour ideal for a variety of savoury meals.
Peter will also share practical tips for simplifying the preserving process and building confidence to continue preserving at home.
